<p>I am a senior and I will graduate HS in less than a month. I just went to the HS Prom last Saturday and it was very fun and crazy. It was my first school dances though and I feel that I missed out a lot. I am in a large HS and we had our prom at Universal Studio and I felt like I didn't get everything out of it. I feel like that I will miss HS simply because of the homecomings and proms. My question is - should I even think that way and do colleges(more specifically in the University of California system or even more specifically UC Davis) have dances that are fun like prom?I really liked the feeling of having classmates and friends I know and we all hang out and dance(and some freak dancing too :D) but no some random people from nowhere? Thank you for answering my question.</p>
<p>Sororities have lots of formals, and those are lots of fun. And some of those girls really get dressed up!!!</p>

<p>It depends on the school, but I agree, sororities always organize tons of events, such as formals or mixers with other fraternities. I would advise you to look into greek life. If you go to a smaller school, consider seeing if your college has a student organization dedicated to student life (like mine does), and see if you can join that.</p>
<p>We have mixers…one is a semiformal. They’re pretty lame, and there’s lots of random people you don’t know trying to dance with you. They’re also the nights that get the most hospital transports. The majority of people go drunk.</p>
<p>Why don’t you take ballroom, swing or salsa dancing at college? It’s a great way to make friends.</p>
<p>ucd has a winter formal (of sorts) for the freshman in the dorms. same idea tho:can wear a nice dress, dance to some rap music in large group, etc. it was fun, i enjoyed it.</p>

<p>IDK about Davis much (but thats where I want to transfer), but at almost all of the parties I have gone to there is dancing going on. I dont think many schools have actual school dances though.</p>
<p>I am in a residential college and we have our annual “charity ball.” The Honors college has a “honors college ball.” The massive freshman dorm on campus hosted a formal as well. Sometimes groups ie organizations/clubs (not just frats or sororities) will sponsor/host a dance as well. [Most people go to these dances drunk]. Then many parties you may go to will often have some sort of dancing (I don’t know specifics for the UCs)</p>
<p>I know a lot of schools have parties at frats and sororities, but I’m sure you can find a group of friends to go club-hopping with if you’re old enough to get in :]
Or you can just have your own! Find an empty space on campus or go to the dorm lounge, bring some stereos and blast music with people.</p>
<p>My school regularly has dances; in the spring we had a “prom” themed dance complete with three live bands from opposite coasts.</p>
<p>Of course, there was no alcohol.</p>
<p>If getting tipsy/trashed+dancing is your thing, look to greek life for these sorts of parties.</p>
<p>Many schools have something called a ‘ring dance’ for Juniors.</p>
<p>My sorority has a semi-formal in the fall semester, and a formal in the spring semester. BU also has a COM Prom every year for all the COM students usually held at a hotel in the city. There’s also usually some kind of charity ball that all BU students are invited to.</p>
<p>We have some type of party every Saturday night and frequently on Fridays and even Sundays as well. We also have a semi-formal every year. I would never compare them to high school dances, though…</p>
<p>We have two university formals, one per semester. They generally are not that well attended, but are slowly making a comeback.</p>
<p>The difference between high school dances and college dances are night and day.</p>
<p>In H.S., I was sort of nerdy and rolled with the clean cut kids, so who knows what the cool kids did but everyone was pretty much sober and there was hardly any grinding - the highlight of my night might have been a make-out if I was lucky. Pretty stiff experience with some band playing 90s music or something.</p>
<p>College - I’m still sort of nerdy but no one at the party would ever believe that as my shirt is off, I’ve polished off several beers, probably yelling loudly at someone/ something, and basically having simulated sex on the dance floor like this is the last day on earth before the Rapture, and we’re all going to hell.</p>
<p>But yeah there will still be some formals if that floats your boat.</p>
<p>Wow, peter_parker, our experiences are totally different! 
For me, college parties are much more mature, as I said, and don’t involve the same ridiculous grinding and such. Even at the other Five Colleges (well, except for UMass…but even then in many cases), most parties and dances are fairly low-key and involve more discussion than making out. Different settings, I guess. :)</p>

<p>Agreed. That’s why I counted them separately. Though, as any student who’s actually been to parties there will confirm, the majority of them don’t live up to their name. 
When they really want to party, they can do it with the best of them, but most of them are average.</p>
