Hello, I'm a senior in high school and I am applying early to several schools.
Will these schools look at my current grades (senior year?)
Our school runs on a yearly/semester grading system and we barely have had any tests/grades in yet, and I doubt this will change by the October/November deadlines.
However, I got my AP Physics test back today, and I did TERRIBLE on it. I usually flunk the first tests in my AP science classes, but do well as the year goes by and always end up with an A. This is why I'm worried. Will colleges view my senior year school report? Because at this rate, since so little grades are entered, each grade is so heavily weighed, which means I do bad on one and my entire grade for that class is a disaster.
So I'm pretty sure I have a B in both AP Calc and AP Physics, but as the year goes by, I know I can pull these grades up.
Will colleges look at my current grades, and if so, will it factor in a lot? (I am taking 6 AP classes by the way)
Thank you!

No, for early schools will not see any senior grades. You submit your seventh semester transcript when it is available for regular decision schools, but early doesn’t need them, you’ll have your decision by then.

The caveat is any dramatic fall off in grades can jeopardize decisions. But that’s the case at any point.

So you do not have any formal grades for the first quarter? ONLY the mid-year semester grades? If you have a transcript that shows quarter grades, that is usually sent to early schools. In fact, the early schools my D applied to required that the guidance office send the first available official grades, which for her were first quarter.

If in fact yours are not available until the semester is over (that’s like January or something, right?) then the I guess school would not automatically send anything until then, but I wonder if some colleges might require SOMETHING and call the guidance office??? You should probably ask your guidance counselor what happens in these situations.

I believe (and someone can correct me if I am wrong) that admissions reps sometimes have relationships with guidance counselors where they call to chat about certain applicants and how they are doing, and academic performance for the current term might be discussed. I know that this happened with my D, I just don’t know whether the admissions rep or the GC initiated the conversation.

You do need to keep in mind, though, that if you aren’t accepted ED, and your applications go to the regular decision round, that those first semester grades WILL be considered.

For example, here is Wellesley College’s requirement:
Secondary School Report- Ask your secondary school counselor to complete the Common App Secondary School Report form (with most recent grades) and to include an official transcript and school profile.
First-Quarter or First-Trimester Grades: Candidates for Early Decision and Early Evaluation will need to submit these grades.
Midyear Report: Ask your secondary school counselor to complete the Common Application Midyear Report form as soon as midyear grades are available for your final year in high school Submitting Credentials Online.
