school refuses to processes my financial aid

See http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc159.html

Even if that were true (or worse, this scenario makes me think of possibility of identity theft ) would the school be privy to that information in order to ask for a W-2?

^^No

^^ That’s what I thought…sounded odd to me…

^If the student received FA last semester from the same college, then it makes no sense that he would have to explain it to them!

I’m not sure that the school is actually using the term W-2 with this kid. They may be wondering why his free money aid from last year that exceeded tuition, fees, books isn’t listed somewhere.

Really, an adult more familiar with taxes, jargon, etc, needs to call the school to get clarification. The family may not have known that the free money that exceeds QEE is taxable income.

Many of us have been on CC long enough to know that kids often inaccurately report problems when they post. They’ll use wrong terms, they get things mixed up (more than we do…lol), and often they’ll come back later and post the result that clearly show that they were “on the wrong track” the whole time.
