Schools I should apply to?

I will be applying as a civil/mech engineer with a ~3.2 GPA. I have >60 units completed and I'm currently attending a CC in southern CA. I still need 2 calc classes and 2 physics classes to complete. Ill be finished with chemistry and IGETC in spring. I haven't taken any engineering courses like CAD or Statics. Should I apply this year for fall 2012 or should I wait to apply for fall 2013? Where would I have a good chance of being admitted?

(Other info: I used to go to Cal Poly Pomona years ago, but I got kicked out due to academic disqualification. After talking to many advisors, I learned most schools will just replace my grades from CPP with the grades I received from retaking them. I was a business CIS major then and only took GEs.)

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you still have a way to go. I would recommend finishing your math and physics this year. Then in the fall of 2012, fill out your applications for 2013, and complete graphics, statics, circuits, and materials during that academic year. Nowadays, most UCs/CSUs will not even consider you unless you will have ALL of your lower-division coursework completed by the time you transfer.

I’d recommend you apply back to Pomona, as you’d know what you’re getting yourself into. I’ve also heard Long Beach and SDSU have strong engineering programs, but I’d also recommend you spring for UC Irvine (and even UCLA if you’re feeling lucky).

Good luck!

k, thanks for the advice
