What do you like about Georgetown? Other than Smith, your other schools share at least some characteristics with Georgetown. BC, for example, has many similarities: mid-sized university, Catholic, very well-regarded, access to major city, some major sports, etc. What are your priorities?

Also, if you want to apply to Georgetown, then apply. If Georgetown is a major reach, you already have at least a few definite reaches. There’s nothing wrong with applying to three or four reaches if the rest of your list is solid.

I think a number of other Jesuit schools could be somewhat similar to Gtown in that that are mid-sized urban colleges. You can take a look at this list and see if any appeal to you. Not sure of your stats but a couple may be good safety school choices http://www.ajcunet.edu/institutions/

NESCACs such as Williams, Hamilton, Middlebury and Trinity offer similar (or even, in some ways, broader) curricula than Georgetown, and might appeal to you by other criteria as well. However, most from this named group are highly selective, and only one (Trinity) is urban.

George Washington and American might be good options.

For a moderately selective public university, look into Miami (Ohio).

If you like the D.C./politics focus, I would second George Washington and American.
If you like the vibes, I would advise Trinity, Middlebury, and UVA.
If you like the Jesuit focus, maybe Notre Dame (very Catholic), Creighton, and College of the Holy Cross.

Thanks! My favourite thing about Georgetown is definitely its amazing politics track. However, the campus vibe is a close second. (I also think the campus is beautiful)

I would add Villanova to the list. A very nice, well regarded mid-sized Catholic school in suburban Philly. An easier admit than Georgetown, but not a cake walk for sure. I think the NESCAC schools in the top half of the conference are as hard to get into as Georgetown and, with the exception of Tufts, have little in common with Georgetown other than smart students. Tufts has the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, which is similar to the Georgetown Foreign Service school. It’s about as hard to get into Tufts as Georgetown these days, though. College of the Holy Cross is a good idea - great school, although quite a bit smaller than Georgetown.

Do you know of any simmilar safeties? My stats are pretty good, but i should probably have one or two school’s ill definetely get into.

These are some i’m considering none of them are comparable to gtown though :
UC Santa Cruz
Sarah Lawrence
University of Colarado, Boulder
University of Washington
Lewis and Clark
University of Puget Sound

Notre Dame is fairly similar to Georgetown except for environment.

BC is similar in environment – nice suburb/area of the city – but (to my knowledge) lacks the foreign service/political zeal and opportunities of Georgetown.

If you can do without the catholicism, check out Johns Hopkins and Tufts. Both are roughly as selective as Georgetown and are strong in IR/FS. Add Notre Dame if you could make South Bend work. BC and HC are strong as well, but I’m not sure about Poli Sci/IR, as stated.

Do check out LACs with gov’t/poli sci/IR majors, like those mentioned and others of their ilk.

You might like Hamilton’s World Politics track and DC semester:

Regarding BC’s political climate…yeah it can’t touch Georgetown. BUT, I’ve lived in several states, and was amazed by how intense the whole political scene is in Boston. You’ve got the governor, mayor, state legislature, school board, and a slew of prominent professors at local colleges all aggressively broadcasting their political views to a very politically minded public.

And BC has a long history of supplying key players to this political stew. I would guess it would be a good place to get exposed to some really interesting political wheeling and dealing.
