My absolute dream school is Georgetown University but it is definitely a reach for me. What schools are similar to Georgetown based on their size, strong academics and location (in a city but still has a separate campus) that are easier to get into. The only ones I can think of are Providence College and Fordham. I’d love any suggestions on schools to apply to that are similar!
Different elements of Georgetown appeal to different people. Is it the location (DC) or any campus with city access? Any particular program? Do you like that it’s Catholic?
Sorting for a few of these, you might like Villanova or St. Joe’s in Philadelphia, Tufts or BC in Boston, Fordham or Marist, etc.
What are your stats?
I like the fact that it’s in a big city but still has a campus feel. I toured Boston University and I hated the fact that it didnt really have a defined campus. No particular program and no religious preference.
As for my stats, I have a 31 ACT composite score, 4.36 weighted gpa and I’m number 10 out of 100 in my class. Will be graduating with taking 4 AP classes (school does not allow you to graduate with more than 5).
Thank you for your suggestions!
honestly georgetown was top for me back in the day and i looked at vandy, usc, smu - i really just enjoyed define city campuses. maybe George Washington because of its location in dc?
How about American? Tulane? And some of the other Jesuit colleges like Loyola MD, Marquette or St. Louis might be worth researching, plus you’d have a good chance at Honors and/or merit.
What were your safety school?
Boston College (not BU), Tulane, U of Denver
If you want a school with a similar location type, academics, and size, I’d suggest Boston College, Tufts, GWU’s Mount Vernon Campus, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern (around 30 minutes from Chicago but Evanston is a really cute town right by campus), Duke, Brooklyn College, and Fordham University (Rosehill location). I grew up in DC and I think Boston and Pittsburgh have a similar feel/vibe as DC, so definitely look into BC and Carnegie.
Duke and Northwestern are harder to get into than Georgetown.
Villanova, U of Miami (Florida), Tulane.
Richmond.
