NYMama, I don't dispute that the ORIGINAL Little Italy was near the Fordham campus, just like I don't dispute that the ORIGINAL Manhattan was sold for 10 blankets, 2 strings of beads, and some naked photos of the Dutch Boy with his finger in a dyke. The fact remains that right now you could be right across the street from Fordham and think you are in a Third World country. It says something about the safety of the area that they NEED 3 former NYPD captains on the security force.

Holy Cross is the #1 rated Catholic liberal arts college on the US News & World Report for Liberal Arts Colleges. It is strictly undergraduate. You are taught only by PhD level professors and not by TA grad students. Nearly all classes have less than 20 students. 2800 students and NCAA Division 1 athletics. #10 on the Princeton Review's rankings of the most beautiful campuses in the nation.

Fordham is rated number 4 after Notre Dame, Georgetown and BC among Catholic Colleges in the US in the extremely tough National University rankings and number 61 overall, rising 24 spots in 5 years...and continuing to rise. Its Division I sports and beat Holy Cross in football last year, as well as Columbia, going 8-3. They play Yale at Home this year on parents weekend.

Fordham is a large school overall, but the RoseHill-Main campus is about 5,000 students, most of whom live on campus. Its also a beautiful campus and has been in more than 4 major Hollywood movies including A Beautiful Mind where it stood in for Princeton. Its list of famous alumni is very long, including Alan Alda, Geraldine Ferraro, Denzel Washington, Bill Casey, among others. It prides itself on small classes as well with the vast majority under 25 students per class, including the freshmen intro classes. More than 70% of Fordham faculty have Ivy League credentials.

Fordham is also a major research university and offers prestigious graduate programs leading to the PhD, a world renowned and highly ranked Law School rated number one in Legal Ethics.

Holy Cross is a fine school and a hop, skip and jump from Boston. So it sort of comes down to where you want to study: New York or Boston.

Good luck.

I agree Fordham is a great school in a fantastic location (much better than South Bend, IN). Fordham did edge out Holy Cross in football last year in a tight game but I hope to see us even the record this year!
