Schreyer Dorms

I have several dorm questions:

Can you tell us when PSU assigns a room mate for Schreyer students at one of the honor dorms?

Do they randomly match students up or do they match them up by academic major?

Also, I read were upperclassmen are allowed to request a private room. How much extra does a private room cost?

Any tips to surviving dorm life? I know there's a list of what a new student should bring, but from you current students, what else do new Schreyer students need to know?

Thank you all in advance for any help you may offer,

SHC dorm policies are the same for gen freshmen regarding room mates. It is totally random. They match you with fellow freshmen (in the SHC it is with other scholars) but the personality/major of the room mate is not matched on purpose. I would suggest, if you are afraid to get with some awkward person as a room mate, is to search one out. Several facebook groups, including the SHC class of 2013 one, can be a great help in finding someone with similar interests. You request eachother on the contract and should be placed together. It is not guaranteed however, especially if one of the two is not a scholar and you request scholar housing. I believe freshmen have until May 15th or so to alter your contract so you have some time yet to find one.

I WOULD NOT wait to submit your housing contract though, rooms fill up fast for freshmen and we are getting close to the time when they fill up and start placing supplementals.

Upperclassmen can request private single. They are not guarateed though, it is a raffle. Not sure of the price, but I am thinking somehwere around 3 grand/semester.

Where do Schreyer freshman get placed if they end up in supplementary housing because they waited until after they have weighed their other options before depositing? Is there supplementary housing specifically for Schreyer freshmen?

Sorry if i wasn't clear- SHC students have guaranteed housing in the honors dorms. They don't have to hurry now, as long as they submit housing before the april deadline they will get it.
