I am a high school student interested in majoring in Education/Journalism/Policy Studies.
I currently have credits in Biology, Chemistry, and Earth Science. I am going to 11th grade, so I am going to take AP Biology then. The universities I want to go to require at least four credits of science for any applying student. Should I not take a science course in 12th grade and instead take a course more suited for my major or should I take Physics in order to have a well-rounded science education?
Many colleges ask for bio/chem/physics at a minimum. If the college does not specifically say this, but just say 4 years of science, then you’re fine not taking a science as a senior, since you already will have had 4 credits. However, if they ask for physics, give them physics.
If you are thinking of a career in education, journalism, or public policy, it would be a good idea to get a well rounded science education, including physics, since you will encounter various kinds of science when working in any of these areas.
You should have physics on transcript. Most selective colleges expect the “holy trinity”- Bio, Chem, Physics- even if they don’t explicitly say it.
