Hey, so a couple of days ago, I received an e-mail from the College of Arts and Sciences requesting me to send a copy of my research paper and abstract. I was a Siemens and Intel Semifinalist but my gpa, rank, and SAT's aren't anything great compared to the incredible kids who apply to Cornell. I'm not trying to be a troll or anything like that. I just really like Cornell and it's probably in my top 3 schools. My question is whether this e-mail is a good sign about my application or is it just something standard that they ask everyone who indicated that they did research? Thanks in advance

I do research but I just started in January so I didn't put it on my application.

So I wrote up an abstract and put it in with my mid-years.

I would imagine its standard practice to get this from anyone who indicates that, but at the same time it can only help you stand out even more.

Yes. Good sign. Cornell likes to look beyond numbers to find the "diamonds in the rough". You may be one of them!

It could also be that they're considering whether to offer you membership in Cornell Presidential Research Scholars, which gives financial support and a support network to students doing research with faculty. These are usually targeted to students with research accomplishments, and come with admission offers.
