Hi guys, I got a 1930 on my December SAT's (first time taking them) and I was fairly disappointed. Here is my breakdown:

710 M
620 W (Damn it!)
600 CR (Damn it!)

I know I can bring up the Writing fairly easily, but the CR is a real pain. I am really hoping for a 2100+ score but it seems impossible right now. Any advice and/or prep books I can use? I will be taking the next SAT's in October of my senior year, so I have plenty of time to improve. I can really use the help guys! Thanks.

NOTE: I haven't used Grubers, Dr. Chung's math workbook, Princeton Review, or any other prep book besides the Blue Book. I don't want to waste too much money so I would appreciate it if you could tell me which book served you best and for which section!

I actually have kind of the same problem as you. In January I got:

Math: 710
Writing: 720
CR: 670 :(

Still, I’m in 8th Grade and because I have like 3 yrs to improve I’ve heard that I should read a high level newspaper article each day “actively” (ask myself questions about it) and memorize 2 or 3 SAT vocab words every day to improve…

In prep books, honestly the collegeboard one is best. Do the every practice test at least twice, and try going backwards too.

In writing you have to work on strategy. Memorize examples that work with nearly every prompt (you should see that all the prompts are sort of similar). You have to know what to write within the first 2 minutes of seeing the essay. Use proper grammar and add in some SAT vocab words.

Memorizing 2-3 words a day is not enough. Memorizing vocab (Direct Hits) and using Silverturtle’s for writing will boost your score. Try to avoid making careless mistakes on math.

Come on guys anything? I recently purchased the Grubers Math workbook, hopefully that’ll be helpful. I need to bring my CR up and I suppose for that I’ll just have to do lots of reading! No idea which prep books may help for that
