My son loves Olin and had an interview last week with local rep.
He wants to do the engineering with emphasis in computing.
Son has been very active with volunteerism >400 hours, sports, and music and does well in school but not >4.0.
Also his sats are the lower of this range-not the higher
Test Scores -- 25th / 75th Percentile

SAT Critical Reading: 700 / 775
SAT Math: 725 / 790
SAT Writing: 680 / 760

Male and not a minority.

Any chance? I think he would thrive in the smaller class/group setting

Has your son taken the SAT II requirements and what about AP courses in his school? Olin wants to see that he has taken some of the advance classes that his school offers. Olin is highly competitive for admissions but if he makes CW it is more about the fit. My son loves Olin (now a freshman) and it was his number one choice over any other school which I think he was able to express at CW. That said I have never seen my son happier then he is now. If Olin is where he wants to be make sure his essays and hopefully his interview at CW express that.

Similar to what Beth suggested, if his scores are in somewhere in the range of accepted students, he needs to highlight what makes him stand out. Based on your brief description, that would be his volunteerism. There are any number of areas an essay about his vast volunteering could catch the eye of Olin. If he makes it to CW, grades and scores no longer matter. It is only about fit at CW and after. Good luck! My freshman D is having the time of her life.
