i got 18.5 k, is that across 4 years?
no each year.
yes…I think so. 18.5k maybe including loan,right?
You’ll see a summary. Each part will add up to a total.
Hello guys, so I just got my financial aid package and I got 12k in grants each year even though I have an EFC of 5,500. Do you guys think this is normal? If it isn’t, do y’all know how to submit an appeal? I have no clue.
@719meb Did you qualify for a Pell Grant?
SCU does not meet full need, plus they use CSS Profile to determine what the family can pay, not your FAFSA EFC.
So, yes, it looks like they are gapping you at least $6K-$7K.
@Mwfan1921 hm no I just missed the pell grant qualifications by a few hundred dollars. But based on my award, I would have to pay around 50,000 a year even though on the net price calculator it said I would get around 40,000 in grants. I have no idea how to interpret this since this is my first financial aid award and my parents aren’t helping me/don’t know anything about it either.
Click “College Financing Plan” in the ecampus, it will tell you how much you require to pay.
Thank you for that! I had no idea how to view the whole thing.
But it does say that I have to pay $63,000 a year after the grant. And then it gives me my institutional methodology EFC (which I assume is based on css profile?) which is 0. weird
no 18.5 in the “SCU Bronco Scholarship”
OH it doesn’t say i have any need based aid at all. the 12,000 was merit based. Do you guys think that is a mistake?
Is anyone seeing need based aid? I think that would help answer the question.
i have no idea
No need aid here either…EFC of 16000.
15 k scholarship but saying I have to pay 60k?
Odd.
Is the Dean’s scholarship dollar amount awarded for per year or over 4 years?
hm thats strange i wonder if todays award includes need based or if it will update
Hi 719meb,
Congratulations on your acceptance. Just contact the financial aid office tomorrow. You should ask:
- How much merit aid are you receiving?
- How much need based aid are you receiving?
- How much of the need based aid is grants (doesn’t need to be paid back) and how much is loans (does need to be paid back).
- Then figure out what your gap is per year (how much you will have to borrow to attend SCU) and think really carefully about whether it is worth it or not.
- Being accepted to SCU is fantastic, but student debt is not. The reality is that SCU tends not to give great financial assistance. But maybe you will be fortunate and receive a generous combined merit and need-based package.
- If there are other schools you are admitted to and that you can attend at a fraction of the cost, you should think about that seriously because it is less about where you go to college and more about what you do at that college. You can have a great experience anywhere and get a great job after attending any school. Saddling yourself with a huge debt is not a great idea.
Congratulations again, and i hope you have wonderful success!
Mom Will make call tomorrow. Hopefully a mix up?
Otherwise it is onto the next one.
Love SCU but not at that price.
thank you so much that helps a ton >.<
