SCU Class of 2025 EA

I’m sorry if this has been asked before but what is the total cost for everything incl room and board. I need to know the difference between the award including loans
S and grants and the total cost to attend per year. Anybody?

According to the most recent CDS, Tuition is 53,000/year and Room & Board is $16,000/year. Plus transportation, books, etc.

My son’s aid page has a mix of grants and loans. Are the loan amounts listed the maximum amount given through federal aid? There will still be a shortfall if that’s the case. Are we expected to get private loans or pay directly to the school for the excess? My older son attends a UC where loans are enough to cover any additional monies beyond grants that are owed. I guess this is not the case for Santa Clara?

1/300, 4.5 wgpa, 4.0 uwgpa, 1450 SATs, 10 APs, decent ECs - didn’t save the world, publish research, write a book, start her own company or hold patents on any products ; )

What were your child’s stats? That’s not bad. Do you live in CA or OOS?

Are you in CA or OOS?

Oos

Hi guys, so they responded to my email. Not exactly the response I was hoping for but i’ll paste it here just in case it will help anyone else.

We apologize about the confusion on the college financing plan - there is a slight technical issue that our team is aware of and will be working on to resolve. You are receiving a $12,700 Need-Based Grant per year along with all the federal aid that you are eligible for. At this time, all students have already been considered for both merit and need-based aid. All students are automatically considered for merit scholarships and if you were awarded one, it would already show on your financial aid award. If you wish to appeal for a possible merit scholarship, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for more information as their office handles merit-based aid.

If you would like to submit an appeal for Need-Based aid reconsideration due to a special circumstance, you can find our 2021-2022 Appeal Request Form here. Appeals and Special Circumstances - Financial Aid - Santa Clara University

You mentioned your EFC - the expected family contribution as calculated by FAFSA using a standardized formula established by the federal government is not the amount of money your family will have to pay for college, nor is it the amount of federal student aid you will receive. It is more just a qualifying number that schools use to determine the amount of federal aid that you are eligible for.

In regards to your question regarding the Net Price Calculator, it’s a useful tool for estimating costs, but it is an estimate only and is really a better tool for calculating your eligibility for federal aid since there are other, less predictable factors involved in what University-funded grants or scholarships may be offered, one of which is the potential competitiveness of each year’s applicant pool.

We hope this helps, and please let us know if you have any other questions!

Mom got the same basic answer when she just called.

So on the Net Price Calculator they estimated I would be given a grant from SCU that was 22k higher than the grant given to me…hmmm, seems too fishy to me
But what is 88k over 4 years between friends? It’s only $$, right?:joy::joy:

Like I said above, SCU is a nice school but not going to borrow 40k a year extra plus have my parents throw in their 15k plus to travel across the country (I am in NY) for a school that i cannot even visit and cannot assure me will be normal next year.

Pass.

As my grandfather always said…what is meant to be will be.

Best of luck to all and Happy Holidays!

Same for me, except it was 30k lower. It’s alright, crossing SCU off my list now. Hopefully I can get in somewhere that gives good aid >_< Best of luck to you!

Same to you…:+1:t2:

And I am sure u will end up where you are supposed to be … have two other offers that almost match my parents EFC (about 1700 difference) so better offers out there.

Frankly I find it a bit disingenuous to say oh “well that just an estimate” of what might be eligible for…if they had said Oh hey yeah it’s going to cost you 55-60k out of pocket, I would have saved the time and effort preaparing the essays and spent the $60 app fee on another school.

Oh well, live and learn …my Mom is happy I won’t be 3000 miles from home:joy::joy:

Makes me wonder if anyone needing FA gets enough - or anywhere close to what they expected from NPC.

I wondered the same…they basically admitted their NPC is worthless too. I mean, maybe, just maybe…FIX IT!

Do you think there’s a reason they don’t fix it? Would it keep kids from applying? It would increase their yield, though, if their NPC was more accurate.

Actually was accepted to another “less prestigious” safety where the offer was $1650 off on their estimated grant.

That I can see…willing to be flexible but wow.
