Yah I always thought SDSU was my safety too....I guess not. I already said I didn't want to be placed on the wait list. SDSU is the worst school I applied to and I'm embarrassed to tell people I was rejected.

^SoCal18 I think they may have rejected people with high stats knowing SDSU was a safety.

Yeah, but my stats aren't great...I just thought they were way better than the average SDSU student. Because I know some people who go there, and I don't understand how they could get in, and I couldn't.

Hi guys, I'm a graduate and a parent at SDSU. First I have got to say that my D loves SDSU! She is a freshman and has taken 16/17 units each semester respectively. She will graduate in 5 years but only because she is a LS major and is going to get her middle school specialization and this takes 5 years. Second, and this will apply to most schools that you might attend (public ones anyway), you can graduate in 4 years however; a) you should be willing to take more than the recommended units at least a couple of quarters or semsters (actually SDSU recommends 16 units/semseter to graduate in 4), more importantly, 8 and 9 am classes are usually open, and lastly, you need to be willing to take an occasional Friday class. In my opinion, a lot of kids want to go to school M-Th and class at 10 or 11:00 am. I don't blame them if it works out. I have 2 in college and one is a Junior in HS. SDSU is trying to move away from the party school atmosphere but they also take students all students who qualify from the SD area over kids who are out of county. I don't recall there being a waitlist before but if your really serious about SDSU, it doesn't hurt to sign up. Anyway, good luck to all of you. I'm sure that you will be happy wherever you end up!

collegemom, I have high stats, and this is how they handled me:
They accepted me very early (December) and then requested that I apply to their University Honors Program (I was accepted). I don't think they deny you for high stats.

yeah they dont just deny you if your stats are higher and know its your safety. i was also notified early (Dec)

socal18 what other schools did you apply to?

3.6 & 1210 cr + m. psychology.
pretty ridiculous right?
now i gotta wait for UCs.

Thats crazy! They sure raised there standards. Where you oos? I feel blessed that I got it in!

wow tszyan.... that doesnt make any sense. my stats were 3.6 and 1200 and i got in early.

ashleybrooke9589, i don't know why. i just don't know why. But see, I think my strong points were on the applications. like how i worked for 2 years and how had tons of awards for the yearbook i worked on. and like my community service and my SATIIs. ):

Man. I guess I'll waitlist.

Rejected.

GPA: 3.1
SAT: 1800
100+ community service, work experience related to major.

ughh, if SDSU rejected me that means Cal Poly is a definite no :(

sdsu received LOADS of applications this year. what your major impacted? what was the gpa requirement for your major? business was a 2.9, yours could be higher. did you have all the general ed out of the way? i just got denied too because i finished all my science and math for engineering before finishing the social science general requirements. my councelor told me to do it this way and i was still denied.
you can call the admissions office and they'll tell you why you were denied. did you fill out your supplemental applications?

community service and SAT don't really mean anything to them, just to let you know.

my major was child development, i'm not sure if it was impacted or not?

calgal08

You may be right but I don't think so in all cases. My son is in at ASU with a substantial scholarship, in at Santa Clara and now in at Cal Poly SLO for computer engineering, but rejected (offered waitlist) at SDSU. He declined since all the other schools he's already in at are much better engineering schools. His stats are 730 Math SAT1 and 720 Math SAT2, 690 Physics, AP calculus AB score 5 (he is an AP scholar). 1300 SAT total and 3 AP classes and 3 community college classes. I think they rejected him but offered him the waitlist to see if he was really interested, good call....he's not.

my d got rejected too(waitlisted--whatever!!).

seniormom99 I hope she gets into Cal Poly!

collegemom, you got me on this one! I have similar stats, 2120 SAT, 4.22 weighted GPA and got into the university honors program. Two commuinity college classes and 7 AP's, but SAT 2's weren't that great, 650 and 670. Maybe his major is impacted? We even got into similar schools, I got into UC Irvine, Cal Poly, SDSU, CSU Long Beach, CSU Northridge so far. Who knows, my friend got waitlisted with similar stats also.

I believe that if you go to one of the San Diego schools then you are almost guaranteed a spot if you have over a 3.0 GPA and above a 1,200 SAT score. Sucks for a lot of people but great for me.

calgal08 with those stats I hope you are going to go to a UC!
