Not true - Being a San Diego resident does not automatically give you acceptance for 3.0 student.

Where do you guyz get this from. Both my friend and I were rejected.

My friend 3.5-1750 Sat me 3.45 1700 sat

We live 15 minutes from the school and are considred in the "priority zone"

So yeah, you do not get admitted because you live next to the school. Kinda funny, I applied there for the sake of applying, but always saw it as a really low school. Funny how they are the only school to reject me, and I got into UCSC and UCR which are better schools.

I was put in the waitlist.
I got in to 5/6 CSU's anyway.

My S was denied. Has a 3.5gpa, 25 ACT and 1100 (math, eng.) SAT. Thought it was a safety and got into all of his reach, comforts, but rejected by SDSU. Our counselor said the GPA this year was 3.8 avg. Don't know the test score average. Fortunately he doesn't want to go there anyway.

Actually Cali Trumpet, and everyone else who questions the San Diego Service area admittance requirements, it is found on the Admissions website under Prospective Students, then I Want To Apply. It give the admittance infor for people inside SD'd service area and a different set of requirements for people who live outside SD'd service area. "Applicants in SDSU's service area who are California residents and have the minimum CSU eligibility index of 2900 and will complete the pattern of college preparatory curriculum will be admitted."

3.6 GPA California community college transfer.
60 units complete

I was accepted then on the web portal thing it all of a sudden changed and said I was Denied. Does anyone know why I would be denied? and is there anything I can do about it?

My major is business admin. Is it possible that it is impacted?

yes- my friend had the same problem. Call Admissions- explain issue. He ended up getting in after all

Our S was denied also. He has a 3.5gpa, 1000 (eng., math), 600 writing and 25 ACT. We didn't fill out any supplement? He did his application on the CSU Mentor. We looked at their web account and it didn't show anything missing. He was offered wait list so we put him on that. We live in San Diego so know the issues with the school. I tried to visit twice and couldn't even find anywhere to park and what a Zoo!

SDiegoMom, A GPA of 3.5 will not cut it at sdsu admissions this year, especially with the budget cuts that will be hitting California schools hard. I would be surprised is the average freshmen GPA for fall '08 is lower then a 3.65.

Cali Trumpet, I do not believe that UCR and UCSC are better schools then SDSU. I attended UCR and it was awful, I then transfered to USD after 2 years. Became Friends with a lot of SDSU students and it seems like a great school, if you can discipline your self to not get caught up in the party scene.

At times I wish I attend SDSU, which would save my family and I a lot of money.

rzajr, we were told the gpa this year at SDSU was a 3.8 avg (out of guaranteed geography). They said he qualified for the wait list due to his ACT. He's not counting on getting in nor is it at the top of his list.

Rzajr-

People will believe what they want to believe. I think if you go to Riverside expecting to not like it, you won't enjoy your experience. Same goes for most schools. It is good you were able to transfer to USD though. I think a lot of people just go to CC because they are afraid it is impossible to transfer from a UC to somewhere else if they do not like it.

I know alot of people who like the school, and a fair number of people from my high school end up at SDSU since my school is basically an SDSU funnel school.

I am always looking at the future outlook, and I tend to think the better teachers teach at the UC's no matter what UC it is. A professor would probably want to teach at a UC rather than a CSU for prestige. This is all skeptical and people can argue one way or another. Also CSU's are known for specific programs, SLO and SDSU in particular. SDSU has a sweet business program and we know about SLO's engineering/architecture program. The Uc's have a wide variety of majors and every UC focuses on a variety of majors, rather then a single program within the school. I bet for instance, a literature major at SDSU is inferior to that of UCSC/UCR's literature major.

It is all how you look at it, but I tend to think the fact that SDSU looked at three numbers when applying to the school says a little about the students they are going to accept. They wanted a high gpa, basically disregarding the difficulty of classes during your High school career (certainly regarded less then the UC's would). They wanted your math and reading Sat scores, and they put everything through a system, and accepted students based solely on numbers. I tend to think students should be expected to get involved a bit in high school through an EC or sport. The UC application basically asked the applicant to highlight their last 4 years of high school, through ECS, volunteer service, and various essays. The UC's seem to put a little more effort into choosing the right students for their schools. This is not to say that the UC's do not care about numbers, because they definitely weigh most of your application on numbers, but there is a little wiggle room either way because of the extras in your application.

Just my two cents, but I am sure students in the SDSU forum will deny my claims because we are all biased in one way or another, right?

I have one child at SDSU. She is a senior, never had problems getting classes. The key is to keep up with your credits. If you do not have the # of credits required to be a sophomore by your 2nd year, you will go to the end of the line. She was an honors student, was accepted at USD and SDSU. Wanted to stay here (who would want to leave...really) and has LOVED SDSU. My second child, 4.68 GPA,30 ACT, 2010 SAT, 42 college credits upon HS graduation has also chosen SDSU as her college of choice next year. She was ELC and accepted at UCSD as well as UCSB honors program. When looking closely at the schools, her desired major (psych) and the honors programs, she felt the choice was very easy. Also, UCSD has admitted almost 20,000new students for next year....how do you think that will affect getting classes? Bottom line....each student has to find the right fit for them.

Hello,
I am looking into a MS/MA Chemistry program at SDSU. I have the minimum requirements asked of admission committe. I do have four years of genetics, chemistry and metallurgical engineering (metal chemistry) experience. I also have five publications in the discipline of metal chemistry. My goal is, of course, a graduate program at SDSU in medical research. Is there anybody out there who can comment on my stats?

thanks
