SDSU graduation rates and sports questions

Does anyone know if it’s hard for SDSU students to graduate in 4 years? My daughter heard a lot of kids take 5 years to graduate because it is so impacted.

Also any info about the sports there would be appreciated. My daughter wants the big school spirit and sports as part of her college experience. Thank you!

It is possible for them to get out in 4 if they take summer classes either there or through the CC. Most public California schools are getting harder to get out in 4 due to the courseload. I know for SDSU when we were there this weekend they said it is possible but they have to take on average 16 units a semester to get through in time. That also means maybe taking a class from a not so popular professor instead of waiting until later. Given that they have a great BB team and good football team I’d say that they have great spirit. I know my daughter goes to UCI and she had to take a summer of classes and with her AP units transferring she is able to get out in 4 (actually one quarter early). It just takes really good planning and staying on course with that plan.

My younger son is a current SDSU student and will be graduating in 4 years with a CS degree so very possible.
He did come in with 38 units of AP credit and did take 2 classes during summer session. He also did not take 16 units each semester. Since CS is very project heavy, he took anywhere from 12-14 units/semester instead.
As stated by @Bean981, students need to be flexible with their schedule by taking courses at less than desirable times (early morning/evening) and less than desirable professors sometimes.

SDSU Football and Basketball games are a big draw so plenty of school spirit.

SDSU has a MyMap Plan for each major which gives a 4 year flowchart to help you plan your schedule.

@Gumbymom How many AP’s did your son take?

@SmartGurl17: He had 10 AP’s by end of Senior year and got credit for Calc 1&2, a History course, Biology course and a Political science course along with general elective credit.

anyone know why 2017 Nursing has a fifth year? I thought it was a 4-year program?
