SDSU Honors College

I am currently a senior in high school and I am most likely going to SDSU next year. I have been accepted in to the honors college, but I don’t really know much about it except what is on the website. I was hoping to get some reviews from current students or past students in it. What’s it like living in Maya Hall compared to the other dorms? Is it worth it? How much harder is it? Any help would be appreciated!

Are you going to Explore SDSU on March 14th? If so, historically they have had an Honors Reception during that time. If you haven’t received an invitation, check with them about it. It was one of the events that helped my child choose SDSU over some top-ranked public schools in the state. If you go to Explore SDSU, you will have many of your questions answered, and will meet students in the program. I believe there are also some videos online from past receptions.

I got into the Honors College and went to the open house day and Honors College reception. Did you? Are you still considering SDSU’s program?

@Snowychan yes I did! And I am, I think I’m going to do it.

I got accepted into the honors program as well and I’m really considering going to sdsu

what was the reception like?? unfortunately I was busy that weekend so I couldn’t go

I went to the SDSU weekend and it was great! SDSU Honors was close to last on my list of schools (was accepted to USD - my first choice up until recently, Chapman, LMU, CSULB, Redlands and U of O with substantial scholarship offers from most of them). That changed after spending both Friday and Saturday on the campus talking to as many current students as I could and hearing the numerous ways SDSU attempts to make a large school feel small. I didn’t get a chance to meet any of the professors but the students were fantastic. SDSU seems to offer a great educational and community experience. The number one piece of advice I received from most students was to join all the activities and groups that sounded remotely interesting to me and then slowly narrow my focus and participation down to the four or five where I felt most at home with the other participants. Although I started the college process two years ago with USD as my dream school (small, beautiful, near the beach, etc), this was a pretty easy decision for me after the open house weekend at SDSU. I’m pretty confident that if you are looking for a solid education in a setting that will give you options for getting involved in diverse activities and communities while still providing a “small college feel”, SDSU Honors (or any of the Living and Learning Communities) will be a good fit.
Hope this helps and good luck in your decision making!
