I'm entering SDSU in the fall as a Theater Performance pre-major, which I had to audition for. Does anyone know exactly how the pre-major system works? It says on the website that I have to take certain classes my freshman year and maintain a certain GPA in order to move on to the major...so if I do that will I automatically get the major or will there be some other elimination process? Basically I want to know how difficult it is to get past the pre-major--is it like a pass/fail thing or do I have to be top of the class?

Basically whatever the website says is true. If you do it then you won’t be a pre-major any more.

So it’s either a pass or fail kind of thing.

My S is a Pre-Accounting major in the School of Business. Pre majors all work the same way. Freshman and sophmores are considered lower division students until you’ve completed 60 units (incuding a number of core/required classes fot your major). At the end of the semester in which you will complete 60 units (usually 2nd semester sophmore year), you will be able to declare your major provided you have taken all the required core classes for your major (and passed them with a C or better) as well as hold an overall GPA equal to or higher than whatever is specified in the General Catalogue at the time you started college. In my S’s case he needs a 2.9 or better overall GPA at the end of his second semester sophomore year in order to declare his Accounting major and move on to the upper division classes. Hope that helps.

That does help, thanks!
