SDSU rejection

Hello, i was rejected from SDSU nursing today with a threshold of 4296. I understand it is very competitive, but i selected my alternate major as Public Health. Can I get accepted into Public Health instead of nursing because I was rejected? Should I also fill out an request to appeal form?

SDSU does not consider alternate majors or in the past they have not. If they did, you would have been accepted or waitlisted with your alternate major listed on the webportal. You can appeal but you need to have new and compelling information for the basis of your appeal.

Oh, i see. On the appeals form can I request for a change of major?

There is no option on the appeals form for change of major, but you could put it in the other section. Remember you still need to enroll in another school until you here about your appeal. Also you do realize that you can no longer pursue nursing at SDSU if your appeal is accepted. Have you been accepted else where for nursing?

Which do you recommend? Appeal for nursing or change of major. Yes, i do know. I was planning to go in for another major closely related to nursing and in the future maybe go into a nursing school since I can’t in SDSU. I only applied to SDSU for nursing, but i’m also waiting for UCSD. If not, community college.

I would appeal for Nursing if that is your ultimate goal. If you change your major, you would need to apply to Nursing school again with no guarantees although you would have to do the same if accepted to UCSD also.

Do you think I have a better chance at appealing for nursing than public health?

If your goal is to be a nurse, why would you apply/appeal to non-nursing programs? Wouldn’t it be better to go to a college where you have been accepted into the nursing program.

I’m sorry to hear you were turned down. From your post did you only apply to San Diego area schools? That may not have been a good approach with nursing so competitive, but too late to change that now.

I suggest, if you haven’t already, spending more time understanding the paths into nursing. Start with http://www.rn.ca.gov/careers/steps.shtml One big decision is whether you should aim for LVN degree and then try to upgrade, get an associates and then upgrade, or stick with the 4-year RN plan.

One other thing that will be critical in admission to 4-year programs is getting work experience in the field. Many schools have a supplemental app for Nursing (see Chico for an example) and they care a lot about applicants knowing what they’re getting into. If you aren’t currently working or volunteering in a health-care setting this is somethign very important to do over the next 2 years.
