SDSU scholarships?

I just got accepted into the school today, I was wondering what scholarships, merit or essay-based should I pursue? Are there any I might be getting in the future that haven’t been released yet? I am also planning on applying for the Weber Honors College, and I heard that they are more generous with scholarships there, is that the case?

SDSU gives little merit aid (scholarships). The majority of aid is need-based for California residents only. The Weber’s Honor college does have some scholarships but it is highly competitive.

@Gumbymom - Hello! I’ve a daughter who was accepted to the SDSU nursing school as an in state incoming freshman. The scholarship page says that there’s a lot of scholarship opportunity but you also state that there’s very little merit scholarships available. We estimate that we’ll be getting little financial aid so we’re researching any scholarships or grants. Do you think it’s worth it to pay the $400 intent to enroll so we can apply for the OFAS through the new portal? I know it’s a very vague question with a lot of factors, but any advice would be very helpful. She was also accepted at USF (merit scholarship), but without SDSU help, the cost would be almost the same for both colleges. She didn’t make the deadline (we didn’t know about it) for the WHC scholarship, but plans to apply to WHC in case anything opens up. Thanks in advance for any advise.

Weighted GPA: 4.5
SAT: 1510

Schools applied to:
UCLA - not accepted
UCI - not accepted to school of nursing, but accepted as public health major
UC Berkeley - accepted today but no undergrad nursing
USF - accepted direct nursing
Dominican - accepted direct nursing
CSULB - accepted direct nursing (applied for President’s scholarship)
CSUF - pending

@BayareaRNdad: The Cal states are not known for giving much merit aid that is automatic, but there are scholarship opportunities out there as you have found. Some may be limited to continuing students, but I would not enroll in any school in the hopes of receiving any of these scholarships since they are not guaranteed. If SDSU is her top choice for Nursing, then yes she should enroll for this reason only.

Also check if the scholarships are a one time amount or are they renewable each year?

WHC gives about 10 scholarships a year so something to pursue but she would not be eligible for this year.

Best of luck to her and SDSU has a great nursing program.

@gumbymom - you are awesome. Thanks for taking the time to respond with your honest feedback. Much appreciated.
