SDSU vs Boulder (Business)

Any comments...it appears almost same cost as So Cal daughter got some tuition to Boulder. Both seem like big party schools she got into Honors at Boulder (did not apply honors SDSU) Comments ??

If you don’t mind answering, what did she receive? SDSU runs about 20K and out of state for Colorado runs 40K. I believe you can still apply to Colorado. If it’s good enough I might have my daughter apply. She also got accepted to SDSU. On another note my other daughter is currently a freshman at SDSU in the honors program.

Also SDSU is number two in the state for business behind Berkley for public schools. My daughter is a business major.

Thanks for your input. She only got the Chancellor’s scholarship at Boulder $15K over 4 yrs but we are thinking she may get $10K in aid additional for Boulder. That would still be more expensive than SDSU. How does your daughter like SDSU, businesss? I know SDSU has a reputation for kids not completing - but now with it being harder to get it, the students attending are a higher caliber. My daughter’s first choice thus far is SDSU which would be great tuition. How does your daughter like Honors there? My daughter is going to apply to honors at SDSU as they extended time until 3/31. Is she living in the honors dorms?

She has done very well so far. Her first semester she made the deans lists. She finishished top 10% percent for business majors. The honors program has been a good program for her. This year the honors kids live in Cuicacalli on the honors floor. Every girl in her suite are in the honors program. She got very lucky all the girls get along well and are respectful of each other. Unfortunately next year they are moving to the Maya dorms. My senior in high school wants to live in Cuicacalli next year so she may not apply to the honors program. She likes the suite concept and the fact she can have a single room. Has your daughter taken AP courses? If so one thing to look into is how many credits will Colorado give her? My senior in high school got accepted to Colorado State too. She received the deans scholarship worth 20K for four years. After adding up her AP credits thus far and assuming she passes all four AP classes this year she could receive 39 credits from SDSU. She would only receive 29 from Colorado State and 22 from Cal State Fullerton. She now is leaning towards SDSU. As their mom I would like them to be on the same campus. If you are attending Explorer SDSU on March 20th I would encourage you to attend the business seminar. My husband went with my daughter last year and found it very informative. I do believe the caliber at SDSU has changed. Both of my daughters are looking to graduate early.

Thanks so much for the info. My daughter has taken 9 AP classes - do you know what you have to get on the AP tests at SDSU to get credit for AP?> I think she only got 3 and most colleges want higher, but maybe not at SDSU or Boulder. I know she got almost all As in AP classes but is not the greatest in terms of testing…I am looking forward to the orientation next week. I thought the suites were great - I know my daughter would like that. We are going to be there Fri and Sat to walk around and get a sense of everything. She also applied at Univ of San Diego, most likely will get accepted, but the price is very high and I don’t know that I could justify the price of private unless she received money. Even with Boulder until we see her entire aid package she won’t be able to decide. Her choices are likely going to be between SDSU, UC Santa Barbara and Davis - if she gets in. Her test scores were not great but EC and essays were good. I am really glad to hear SDSU caliber students are getting better. The partying concerns me, but my daughter has seemed to balance her social life in 12th and her studies. I have given her freedom this year - yikes! just so she can get used to making (I hope) smart choices. I am glad to hear your older daughter is doing well. Does she plan to finish at SDSU? Anymore input is welcome…thanks so much

I believe SDSU takes mostly 3’s on AP’s. With 9 AP courses she could have alot of credit before she even starts college. I would check the website and calculate each school she’s considering. My freshman at SDSU was in the same boat last year. She was accepted to Purdue, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Illinois. All of these schools rankly fairly high but, after visiting each campus she decided to stay closer to home. Each of these schools are great schools and we were impressed with all. It came down to geography and was she going to get more for the money. After getting accepted to SDSU’s honors program that made her decision easy. Yes parties do go on at SDSU but, not everyone attends. My daughter has been invited, but has decided not to go. She will finish at SDSU. At this point she should be done in 3 years. If your daughter is considering Cuicacalli I wouldn’t wait too long to get your housing agreement in. I believe it’s the most popular housing choice. I wish you well on your future direction. I can’t believe I’m going through the whole college thing again I just did this last year.

Thank you so much and I saw the layout of Cuicacalli after you mentioned it and it looks great. My daughter also got into Pitt and a couple others. I am so glad to hear the great comments. It sounds like even if she does not do Honors, SDSU is a good place and it is what you make of it. She has been a good student so I cannot see her getting to much off track (hopefully) WOw, I learned a lot going through this with my first one now. So much to learn. Thanks again for all your comments

If you want any additional information regarding the honors program stop by their booth. They will have a table set up during Explorer SDSU. My daughter is actually working that day. Best of luck on your daughter’s decison.
