One of my good friends is going to graduate this Summer from a different State flagship University. He's getting a degree in Engineering and Construction Management and has a GPA of about 3.8. He's from Seattle and wants a second BS in Physics from UW, since he's only 35 or so credits from a BS in Physics and since his current school is nowhere near as good as UW. Yes, I know he has to go to UW for 45 credits and 3 quarters. He loves being in school, loves Seattle and regrets going to the other school, as he got into UW to begin with, also his GI Bill stuff will pay for the second BS.

He hasn't heard back either where he currently is or at his permanent address about his admissions decision yet for Fall of 2012. Should he get his notice in the middle of the summer, like other transfer students? Will his chances be effected by the fact that he will have graduated?

He's URM, and I told him to write about that and that he's 1st generation in college and that he was a Marine (briefly, medical discharge). So I'm not too worried about my buddy getting into the school, but I don't wanna suggest that he look into getting a place closer to school (family has moved to W Seattle/White Center border, actually not far from Fauntleroy, while he was in school) and have some fluke have him not be admitted.

Should he be concerned about getting in? I really wanna give him good advice, since I'm helping him from thousands of miles away and he's been my buddy for a long time.

Postbac admission is very competitive and limited, much much more so than transfer admission. He does seem to have good stats, but I would NOT recommend moving to the area if he thinks that he would only want to live here if he gets accepted.

I want to say that the admission rate for post-bac students is 30% but I cannot find a source for where I read that. Also I imagine it would vary by major and I don’t know if physics students have a higher or lower chance of admission. He should probably email the admissions and/or physics department for those kinds of stats. I did find this page – [Already Have a B.A.? | University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Admission/International/Postbac) that said only ten international post-bac students were admitted per year. Out of how many, I don’t know, but I think that kind of shows how limited the admission is.
