Second chances thread on the Penn forum.. Please help though-IS IT WORTH THE ED?

I really want to apply to Wharton ED, but I am not sure if I want to be held down with the contract.

-Native American male from Oklahoma at a top 300 school. I dont know how. School never sends kids to top schools…one to Duke this year but that was a miracle.

-2100 SAT, 32 ACT- MIGHT come up.

-3.7cum GPA(3.5frosh year), about 3.8 from then on. Rank is iffyrobably top 4-8% if not higher

-AP Scores: All 4’s and 5’s, but no AP Calc or AP Physics. Hardest was probably AP Chem

-ONLY TWO YEARS OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE* Long Story =(

-ONLY MATH THROUGH PRE-CALCULUS. I know that calc is big at Wharton so I am considering a CC class. My counselor will inform adcoms on my application that this was not an option.

-ECs: I have three passions

  1. Tennis-I am a nationally ranked tennis player at a top 10 junior club in the US. This takes up a ton of time, and I play on varsity as well-I have been the only player from our team to make it to state…TONS OF TIME
2.Volunteering-I have volunteered at nursing homes, the art museum, with the less fortunate and with Cystic Fibrosis. I REALLY love doing this, I did not just do it to fulfill my service requirement to graduate. This is a possibly essay topic, but I do not want it to come off as cheesy. However, I think I can write an essay that will not come across like that…

I am also VERY involved with the school. Stu-Co Chair and officer.
I have been to a few leadership programs and camps that are invite only. I really LOVE the stuco stuff at my school as well. I have taken leadership (stuco) class for 3 years as well.

-I really only have 3 passions but I hope that shows.

Basically I have been posting the same chance thread a few times to try and create a profile as solid as possible and allowing people to critique and make my application shine. I just want to know if the Wharton ED will be sucessful?

C'mon! 10char

"I am not sure if I want to be held down with the contract."

Then apply RD instead!!

I know I could but Wharton is what I have wanted, but what if I get into Harvard or Stanford? I would never know. That is why the decision is so difficult.
Lets do this?

RD Chances-

ED Chances-

????

well you are native american, that virtually guarantees you admission

I have been reading that AznN3rd but truthfully I find it almost impossible to believe. That is virtually the only response I have recieved on the many chance threads I have posted but I am looking a more explained answer I guess?

But thanks..I hope your statement is right.

apply RD...you will get in either one. With RD you won't be tied down by the contract.

If you're positive Wharton is what you want, go for ED. Otherwise, go for RD.

if you are 100% sure you want to do business, apply ED to Wharton, as for what you want to do it's the best program in the country. If you are less than sure, apply RD and you have your options open, though of course going to Wharton does not lock you into business, as you are free to take courses or pursue a dual degree with the other undergraduate divisions.

"I know I could but Wharton is what I have wanted, but what if I get into Harvard or Stanford?"

This is why ED is wrong for you. ED is for kids that want Wharton more than ANYTHING else - that would go there regardless of whether or not they got into Harvard or a full-ride from UCLA or whatever else. Apply RD.

Thanks everyone-So how are the RD chances?

Please do NOT apply ED to Wharton if it isn't your top choice.. it is likely that you will regret it later on since, as you know, you have to go once accepted. You must be pretty sure that Wharton is where you want to go.. forget the "ED helps my chances".. since you are saying 'what if I get into Harvard or Stanford', I'd say apply to all of three of these places (plus a few others of course..) RD and then make your decision about where you want to go.

Play up your cultural heirtage in your essays and you're set. Do you live on a rez? If so you could discuss your state of liminality...its a much better bet than: How baseball taught me leadership. Good Luck!

I do not live on a reservation...haha pretty common misconception.

Harvard sucks for undergrad anyway. But as a native American (the king of UR M) you could misspll your own name and get in. Somehow this "enriches my undergraduate experience"

haha i actually knew a girl who mispelled her name on her name on her SAT..i think she lost like 20 points or something. nonetheless, we shouldn't get off topic.

I thought you need to live on a reservation to qualify for the full URM status
