Hi, I’m a high school senior who was admitted ED I and I’m really excited about attending AU next fall. However, I have some worries about my grades. I’m an IB diploma candidate, and my grades have started to fall off in two of my IB classes (HL Biology and SL Math). I’m not in D or F trouble, but I might be looking at a C and C+ in these two classes this quarter. I’m a poly sic major, so these classes thankfully have very little to do with my major, but I’m still worried. I honestly think I’m going to get either a C and a C+ or two C+'s. I expect a return to the norm next quarter.

Bottom line: what does it take AU to rescind and ED I applicant?

In 2011, I was a regular admitted student and went through something similar. I really messed up and received a C- in Calc, the equivalent of a failing grade. During the 2nd semester (might be diff since you’re on quarter system), my admissions officer told me that I had to submit a reason for the failing grade where the admissions committee would review my admissions decision and my final grade in the class. I eventually ended up with a B, submitted my reason, all of my other grades were good, and my admissions officer notified me that my admissions offer still was on the table.

Before all of this I met my admissions officer at a college fair and he did not seem too worried for me. In my opinion, I don’t think AU Admissions would rescind over one bad grade, especially one that’s still passing.

But this is a new admissions cycle and you’re ED1 so you never know. Why not just directly ask your admissions officer?

Thanks, I wasn’t sure whether checking with my admissions rep would draw more attention to the fact that my grades are lagging, but I suppose she’s probably going to notice anyway. I’m worried because I have more than one mediocre grade. I suppose I probably should just ask her. Maybe I’ll ask without mentioning my name, haha.
