Hey everybody,

Brief backstory: I went to SUNY Geneseo from 8/2011 to 5/2012. I did well enough, had a 3.3 GPA there. It was an emotionally draining year, and I lacked academic purpose, so I decided to take a semester off. In January of 2013 I enrolled at Hunter College, and got a 3.94 for the Spring semester, granted I had to take all intro classes to fulfill general education requirements. Now it is Fall 2013, and I should end up with around a 3.6 for this semester. However, I'm not enjoying the lack of community that comes with Hunter being a commuter school. I lived in the city for September and October, then moved back home (30 minute train ride to NYC) for the rest of the semester. It's a great school, but I didn't get into the honors program after interviewing, which I was kind of banking on to develop a community. I do have friends there, but they're all work-type friendships. See each other in school, continue our lives out of school. So, I'm looking for a little more engaging environment for my last 2 years, either academically or socially.

The three options I face are going back to Geneseo, staying at Hunter, or starting again at New Paltz (with hopes to join their honors program). There are pros and cons of each... Geneseo is a nice community and I have friends there, but it's far away and my GPA is lower there than I'd like. At Hunter, my GPA is rad, but the lack of community is not ideal. At New Paltz, transfers have to live off campus so I'd be totally starting over... no guarantee of the honors program, but seems like a great town and school.

To make matters a little more complicated, I have plans to apply for a PhD program after undergrad. So, I normally wouldn't care much about GPA or school prestige, but my future somewhat requires it. I'm a loose political science major-- more interested in political theory than American, Comparative, or International. I'm visiting Geneseo this weekend, and frankly, I'm a little bit nervous since it's my first time returning. I've already applied to New Paltz and am waiting to hear back. My registration date for Hunter is on Monday, and I need to let my boss know this weekend whether I'll be around next semester or not. Lots of variables going on here, I've definitely made this complicated for myself. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
