What is the difference between a Secondary School Report and a Secondary School Transcript? I'm an international, so please be as explicit as possible. Thanks.

Here is a link to download forms for the Common Application:

You will see that the Secondary School Report includes your senior year class schedule, information about your school (grading system, class size, etc.) and it is where your guidance counselor evaluates you. In contrast, your high school transcript lists your classes for all years and gives your grades.

Thank you, entomom. One more question. We have 15 subject matters per semester and I can’t list them in the common app due to the lack of space. Should I attach a different sheet of paper? And should I write the grade I received for EVERY subject matter on EVERY semester? I think the admission officials will turn quite dizzy when looking at such a transcript. In contrast, I plan to list my courses for each semester and the average score received for ALL of them per semester and, subsequently, per year. At least, this is how the system works in my country. I think that mentioning the grades received for every subject matter in the last and present semester (aka 2nd semester 11th grade and 1st semester 12th grade) will suffice. Of course this transcript will be signed and stamped by a school official. Is this a good idea? I need advice.

Most of the time a transcript will only include your final grades. As an international, your ability to pay and your test scores will be way more important than anything else…unless you’re applying to top, top, schools…in which case…your transcript will be the least of your problems.

You can use the Additional Information section of the Common App to list the rest of your courses. I’m a little confused as to why you’re writing down grades at all, as these will be listed on your official transcript. The only listing of classes is on the Secondary School report, and that is only for senior year and does not include grades, only names of the classes you are/will take. Your mid year grades for senior year will be sent on the form that is given on the Comm App website.

Sorry if wasn’t very clear, but I was actually talking about my official transcript, which I have to compose and my counselor has to sign. Anyway, I’m so confused!

Got it, that’s very different from here where students don’t touch their transcript. However your country figures out your final grade for a class over the span of the year, that’s what colleges will want to see.

You might want to ask your question on the Intl Students subforum as someone there might have more experience. Also, if you have any questions, you can always email (or have your counselor email) the admissions office at any college.

In the US, schools record all of your grades and courses on a sheet a paper–they have one for each student, which often also include test scores and class rank. The student request a copy be sent to the schools he or she is applying to.
