Seeking Advice from Current GTown Transfer Students

I am a freshman at a small new england liberal arts college and I have applied to Georgetown for sophomore year. My reasons for transfering are mostly social (need a larger, more diverse student body, more urban environment, etc).

Sooooo current transfer students, I am wondering, how difficult was it for you to get integrated into GTown and make friends? Do they have any special programs for transfer students to meet each other and other students, get acquainted with the campus, etc.? Do you have any regrets about transfering there?

I know these questions are broad but any insight you could give into the life of a transfer student at GTown would be really helpful.

come on guys...

You might look at some of the pre-orientation programs, which, in addition to being good experiences, are a nice way to meet other new students. I did one (FOCI) and have remained good friends with many of the participants since. Also, I'm not sure if it's still done this way, but when I started, Georgetown grouped a lot of transfers on the same floor of the dormitory so we got to know each other as well. And of course, the various groups and clubs are a good way to meet other students.

I certainly am very happy I came to GU and have had a wonderful time here, but I'm not sure how parallel my experience is to yours as my situation is a little unusual. I was a transfer student, but really only in a technical sense. (Simplifying it slightly, I had taken a bunch of classes at the local college while in hs and was able to transfer enough credits to start as a junior.) Hope this helps!

thanks that helps a lot! i will look into the FOCI program.

anymore advice from any transfer?
