I’m a community college student preparing to submit transfer applications to universities this fall, for 2019 fall admission.
I have a 3.56 GPA. I have two semesters of Ws, due entirely to a relapse in chronic illness, and not academic failure. I have documentation for both the illness and the medical treatment requiring those semesters of withdrawals. I’ve stabilized and received an A in every class in the two most recent semesters on my transcript. Overall, I have all As and Bs, with one unfortunate C. The C was in a class specified as a major (psych) requirement for both UCD and UCSC transfer, and they’ll technically take the C, but I’m going to take another class this summer that satisfies that same articulation, because the C isn’t reflective of my academic ability. If possible on the application, I’ll request that this new class is considered instead.
Now, I have to pick a UC to TAG with and I’m struggling to decide so I’m looking for some input.
Ostensibly, I should pick the UC that would be harder to get into without the TAG, right?
I’m a psych major, so that’s the program I’d be applying to.
I’m applying to both UCs regardless, so it’s not quite the same as picking which UC to go to, or anything. It’s more like…which UC do I want to place my best bet on, since the TAG can only be used once and is a pretty important tool.
With the few “special conditions” I have to vouch for on my application, my GPA, the status of the psych program at each UC, the appeal of a degree from each UC from a grad school standpoint, the general quality of each UC compared to each other, my preference for research psychology vs clinical psychology, and the difficulty of admission from a general application to each UC, anyone have a recommendation for where to place the TAG?
I know it seems overcomplicated, but I think maybe it isn’t that complicated, and I’m only making it so difficult, which is why I came here for some third perspective insight. Thanks!
