I am a rising senior and completed Spanish IV at my school junior year. However, AP Spanish Language is not being offered in class or online for my school, so I'm thinking about self studying for it to show my commitment and desire to better my Spanish skills. Should I bother self studying because I would only be mentioning it on my college app and the college would have no way of knowing that I actually did the work and took the test and actually did well on the test? I'm also applying somewhere ED so I would have the decision back well in advance in which I could decide not to take the test or quit studying. Should I self study for an AP senior year, or is it a bad idea?

In this case, the only reason you’d want to take the exam would be for college credit or for satisfying a foreign language requirement. So check the policies of the colleges you’re looking at. Spanish 4 is probably enough for admission purposes.

Yea, that’s what I was thinking. Sort of pointless other than credit.

Try to find a degree plan / degree requirements for a prospective major at that school. Then see if a foreign language is actually required for whatever you want to major in. Just because the school gives credit doesn’t mean it will help you!

If you write about self-studying in an essay or in a supplemental or in anything, colleges will see your dedication to learning more material. However, I don’t know how much that will really help you, because you will not have even taken the test by the time you apply, but if you really like Spanish, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t do it just for the sake of learning and mastering a language.
