I'm thinking of self studying Macro or Micro since none of them are offered at my school. Any recommendations? Any good review books or textbooks I should buy for either one?

Yeah self study its a pretty essay exam really. That is what I’ve been told.

So far I’ve just be covering the basics at this site: [- AP Microeconomics Topics - AP Microeconomics Exam Review Course -](http://apexamreview.com/apmicroeconomics/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=15)

It gives a pretty good run down of what to expect on the exam.

Why not just do both?

They’re relatively easy AP’s with a decent amount of overlap. For example, your self-study schedule may look like this:

Macro Only: 15 Hours
Micro Only: 15 Hours

Micro and Macro: 20-25 Hours

I would do both because they’re related. I don’t know what these courses consists of, but it sounds pretty easy to self-study.

I’d recommend both as well, for the already stated reasons. AP review books and textbooks generally include both, so if you’re already buying all the material, why not take both?

As for books, our AP Economics (macro and micro) class used a white book with an orange top-half. I forgot what it was called, sorry. But, honestly, the AP review book was much, much more concise and essentially covered everything. We had daily reading chapter quizzes and I almost always got 100% from reading the significantly shorter section in the AP review book. So if you feel like you need/want the extra examples, you can go for the textbook (sorry again that I can’t recommend an exact one). Otherwise, it’s more time and cost effective to just get a good AP review book and take some past AP tests for practice.

I used 5 Steps to a 5 as my review book. I really liked it for its lists of vocabulary after each section, though I didn’t do any of its practice tests so I can’t say how good those are. Economics is pretty much just knowing vocab, reading graphs, and applying what you know, so I don’t think there would be drastic differences between review books. But since I didn’t actually look at all of them, I can’t say from personal experience. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I took Macro two years ago and used 5 steps to a 5 as a review book. I thought it was very manageable and I scored a 5 on the exam. Micro overlaps with Macro a little bit, but I’m not sure how much since I didn’t take both exams. Good Luck!

@injennious I’m going to be taking 3 AP classes next year as well as, self studying 3 others so I’m not sure if I can manage both macro and micro. Thanks for the advice though, I’ll see if I can squeeze macro into my schedule since the actual course is only a semester long. Thanks for the support!

Ah, okay. If you’re only choosing one, I felt that micro has more graphs and analysis whereas macro is more conceptual. Try skimming through the books/online websites and see which one is more suited for you. And I hope you still have a great summer with all that self-study going on!

@injennious Yeah I’ll skim the course outline for both macro and micro and then make my decision. Haha thanks, this summer break is not really going to be much of a “break” anymore. Anyways thanks for the help and I hope your summer is doing great!
