So everyone keeps talking about self studying a bunch of AP and regular courses, so what exactly is that and how do you do it?
Thank you.

Self-studying an AP exam means taking an AP exam without taking the class. This can usually be arranged with your guidance counselor, but there’s no reason to do this unless you want college credit. If your high school offers a particular AP class, colleges would prefer that you take the class and the test rather than just the test. If your high school doesn’t offer a particular AP class, you’re not expected to to take it and you’d be better off working on your ECs.

Self-studying a regular class (or any class) means getting credit for a high school class without taking it. Whether or not this is possible depends on your school. My school has allowed me to “test out of” high school classes by passing the regular final exam. My letter grade on the final went on my transcript as my grade for the class.

Can you self study regular non AP classes and get credit for it?

Self-studying an AP exam is different from self-studying a class (which could be AP or not) at your high school. Self-studying an AP exam won’t get you high school credit unless you figure out some special arrangement with your school.
Whether you’re allowed to test out of high school classes depends on your school.

so if I work it out with my counselor I could del-study a course I really want to take like I want to take AP French senior year, and self study AP Psych which I genuinely want to take.

Is there a reason you can’t just take the classes you want to take in your school? Self-studying stuff isn’t as common as people on here make it sound, and IMO it’s not an ideal way to learn a subject compared to actually taking a class.

The AP subforum has a lot on self studying

I am packed trying to meet all my school requirements and keep up French, Orchestra, and speech and debate so I don’t have the periods to take a lot of the AP classes I actually want to take, so when I heard about self studying I was like Hallaluah! Praise the Higher Power of the Universe! (Could be God, or Allah, or Brahmin, or Buddha, or so on, not specifying) I could here divine singing, so yeah.

Not all APs should be self-studied. For example, AP Physics C is really best taught by a teacher.
