Selling D's Old Horn

I am in the process of selling my D's old Holton. It is advertised on Hornplayer.net. I have had some inquiries and the latest would like to make a deposit and look at the Horn on approval so the teacher can hear the Horn. While this makes sense to me I really need the guidance of BTDT's so that I can do this without a world of trouble. Can you help me out?

You may wish to make use of an Escrow Service, several of which can be turned up through a google search. Look for one that is licensed and bonded for your own protection.

I used escrow.com this summer when buying S a trumpet. It worked really well.

My S has bought several horns via hornplayer.net. He's always been buying from professionals (name known), so it's been a bit easier. A certain amount of trust is involved. We mail the check. They mail the horn. We get a few weeks trial, then we either mail back the horn or they cash the check. Twice it has worked out to drive to meet up with the person, and exchange horn and check in person. I've never heard of nor used the service described above, but it sounds like an interesting option when dealing with complete strangers!

Thanks. I have emailed the person and suggested Escrow.com both for our protection and theirs. Hopefully they are appreciative of the effort. My main concern is the possibility of accidental damage in shipping or while they have it. With my D away at school I am kind of flying blind on this.

You could always insure the instrument against accidental damage.
