Seminars?

So what exactly are these?

I read some stuff on it
UCSD :: Undergraduate Seminar Programs

I see they are all around 50 mins.

But are seminars just discussions kinda for fun in addition to your say, 4 classes? Or is it basically like in place of a class, with grading and everything?

for fun in addition to your say, 4 classes

do we also sign up for them when we enroll in our regular classes?

i have the same question. what is it supposed to help you with and what is the coursework like?

You sign up for them at the same time as your regular classes. If you're on sophomore or junior standing, you'll need to email the department of your seminar to get them to let you in if WebReg doesn't let you sign up.

They're not designed to help you with your other course work. You take them because you're interested in the topic, want an extra unit, reasons like those. Since they're only 1 unit, the course work is pretty light. Most don't require much outside work. Maybe an hour at the most. Anything more than that is too much work for 1 unit.
