I know this isn’t the usual “What Are My Chances?” post, but I want to know what my chances are to be a senate page.
Firstly, I’m applying for this summer’s sessions; do you think it’s too late?
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.5 weighted
ECs:
Spanish club co-pres
Environmental club founder and pres
Varsity tennis
Part time job
I write for the school newspaper
Participate in Constitutional Study group called We the People (just won districts)
Model UN (haven’t won anything, so I’m not sure if I should include this)
Achievements:
Honor Roll
Varsity letter for tennis
I don’t have many achievements/ awards. I am going to join national honors society, but we don’t get told if we are in until late winter, so it will be too late.
What kinds of things are they looking for and what are my chances?
If you haven’t done so already, I would look at your state senator’s website to see when the application deadline is, and even if it’s passed it may be possible for your to apply through a different state. (Also, find out if your senator is allowed to sponsor a page, and if they’re accepting male or female applicants for the summer session.) It sounds like you have a pretty solid set of extracurricular activities and excellent grades. It’s always worth a shot to apply. I do think that emphasizing the Constitutional Study group and school newspaper work would be a good idea since they are more political, but I know people who have gotten in with next to no political experience. It really seems to come down to how competitive your state is and who you know in a lot of cases.
My friend was a senate page. TBH he’s not that impressive. I don’t know anything about applying to be a senate page but maybe that can tell you something.
Include model UN though.
