I'm currently a sophomore and so next year I'll apply for the Senate Page Program. Looking at my ECs, you can't tell that I'm interested in law/politics, so I'm wondering if I should do NHD this year to make my ECs reflect my interest in politics.

My ECs right now are:
Varsity Golf
Science Olympiad (captain)
Model UN
Pit Orchestra
Academic Team
Hospital Volunteer (3hrs/week)

I was a Senate Page for the second session of Summer 2013! I am from FL, and my Senators were not able to sponsor anyone at the time that I inquired about applying. I compiled a list of the Republican Senators with the most seniority (my parents and I are registered Republicans) and contacted their offices. Senator Inhofe’s office was impressed with my resume, so they allowed me to apply even though I wasn’t from Oklahoma. I am the Secretary of my school’s Speech and Debate Team, Founder and Chairwoman of my school’s Teenage Republicans Club, and a state officer in the Florida Federation of Teenage Republicans. Furthermore, I was an intern at the local Romney Campaign Office during the 2012 election and have served as a Florida Senate Page twice. I also am very involved service-type activities. As far as academics goes, I’m in the International Baccalaureate Programme, take AP classes, and average As and Bs with a weighted GPA of 5.945. I submitted two letters of recommendation: one from my AP US History Teacher/Republican Club Sponsor and one from the former Chairman of my county’s Republican Executive Committee.

I would say the best advice I can give you is to start the application process as early as possible! You can serve as a page before, during, or after your Junior Year. Find out what the policy is for selecting pages is in your state ASAP, so you have time to explore other options if necessary. I suggest that you either call your Senator’s office on the phone or write a letter. In my experience, emails are more likely to be unanswered. Your parents’ political affiliation shouldn’t matter when applying! (However, I focused on Republican Senators because of how active I am with the GOP.)

Keep in mind that every page is different!

I hope this helps! :)

Is Florida the only state with high school students? I can’t find any state in the Northeast with high school students for senator page…

Hi! I’m a current sophomore from Utah. I am interested in applying for the spring 2015 session or summer 2015. I’ve already contacted my senator (Hatch) and he will be sponsoring a page. But I’m worried that I don’t have enough extra-curriculars (most of mine are from previous years and I haven’t done anything to display my interest in government because I didn’t hear about this program until recently).
I have straight A’s (4.0 GPA) and I’m in Pre Calculus, honors US history and honors English. What are my chances? And would another senator accept me if I applied to a different state?
Also for any previous pages. What is the residence hall like? Like what’s the atmosphere and what do you do in free time and on weekends. And what is the school like?
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

What people will be looking for is what have you done to prepare your self for this and what will you take away from it. That is great that you have straight A’s, but this is like a college application. They will look at everything!

The dorm is 2 floors+basement. Each room holds 4-6 people with a bathroom for each room. Males and females are on separate floors but are allowed to go to each other’s floors during the day. The 1st and 2nd floors each have a day room with a tv, couches, board games, etc. The basement holds the kitchen, laundry room, and the page school. I don’t know too much about the school because I was a summer page other than you take 4 classes in the morning before you start work. I thought that the atmosphere was great. I served as a page with a really awesome group of people that I have stayed in touch with. On the weekends, the possibilities are pretty much endless as far as activities go.

@EveningSwan Did you get into the program for this Summer?

@EveningSwan I got into the second summer session!

@BBkr Unfortunately I’m not eligible yet for the summer program b/c I’m still 15. I’ll just have to wait until next spring…

@mcguireem Congrats!!!

@flgopgirl I have applied to be a senate page during second summer session this coming summer in 2015, but I’m really curious as to what daily life is like? When you aren’t working, how structured & strict was it/how much freedom did you have, during the week as well as on weekends?
