sending colleges stuff they don't really need.

for my Purdue application, it didn't really ask for letters of recommendation and a lot of information that i felt would help me in the admission process. i'm planning on included a couple of letters of recommendation from teachers at a previous school and of course my guidance conselor's recommendation from my current highs school and also a resume.

I'm wondering would sending college stuff that they might consider "useless" hurt my case?

it wouldn't matter if they didn't read it or even look at it, but it shouldn't hurt my chance of getting in right?

It might. There's a reason they don't ask for that stuff, and you may simply succeed in annoying them.

Before you send anything unrequested, call Purdue and ask them if it is permitted.

It's usually cause those schools don't really care about you as a person but plug you into a formula which comes out with a ACCEPT, DENY, or WAITLIST.

The letters won't affect anything unless your applying to honors or some special individual program.

thanks i see, also purdue listed one of their requirements as English proficiency. what is this? do i need to take the toefl...i;m not an international student but i;m not a citizen either. do permanent residents also need to take the toefl exam?

If you attended a high school with the instruction language being english for 4 years you're fine.
