So a few years ago I did two semesters of college coursework from a foreign university. I had no ambition and my grades were generally C's and D's. ( a gpa of probably 2.3 or something).

I decided to start over here in the U.S by getting my Associates in Science. I told my community college, casually and not in written form, that I don't want to transfer any of the old credit and want to start over and they were like whatever.

37 credits later, I have a good 4.0 GPA at my CC and seem to have a good chance to transfer to a decent university until I came across this fact: All universities want transcriptions of any previous institution attended.

My question, do I have to submit my transcript from this foreign (obscure) university ?

If I must. How much will it damage my chances ? (specifically transferring to UNC- CH)

Actually, I don’t know if you have to. When the school in question is a foreign one, the rules change. For example, ED agreements are binding but if one decides to break the agreement by attending a school in another country, then there’s no penalty. (eg: Brown ED admit who attends Oxford instead)

So I think you’ll be okay if you don’t send them, although I’d make sure. I’m pretty sure UNC won’t care about coursework done in another country unless you tell them about it.

UNC-CH makes it very clear - “You must submit transcripts from your high school and all colleges and universities attended. Transcripts should be official copies sent by mail or secure electronic delivery.”
