Ok so I just signed up for my SAT Subject Tests and it asked me if I wanted to send in scores right now, itself. Thinking nothing much of it, I just clicked the X button. Now I am scared that I won’t be able to send my score. How does sending your score work? Did I miss my only opportunity to send my score to colleges? What about AP Exams, how do I send in those as well as my Subject Sats when I apply? Lol, your boi is confused again.
You do not have an issue. With every test you take, you have the option to identify up to four colleges to automatically receive scores upon release and you are not charged extra for those sends. You can actually also change whatever you choose – identity of colleges or just to not send any – any time by no later than the ninth day after taking the test. After that ninth day, you cannot change your choices.
Those free sends get sent as soon as your scores are released; in fact, they are usually sent a day or two before you even get your scores online. Thus, you will not know the scores before they are sent. That is why many choose to wait and order scores sent until after they are released and closer to the time they actually apply to colleges. You get charged an extra fee per college if you choose to send scores after they are released; in other words, you lose your “free” sends unless exercised bu that ninth day after taking a test.
Sending AP scores is an entirely different order – they cannot be sent as part of your SAT order. Thus, when applying to colleges, you just need to separately go into your AP tests that appear online with the College Board and order AP scores sent to colleges. Just be aware that colleges generally do not require AP scores for admission but many of your high ranks will give them consideration if sent. Moreover, you usually do not even have to order them sent by College Board because those colleges will accept self-reported AP scores in your application or ones that m,ay appear on your transcript.
As @drusba goes on to say, you do not need to send an AP score report for a US college application. In fact, it’s a waste of money to do so. Self report your AP scores on the application and send the official report to the college you will be attending.
