How early can I send my ACT scores to colleges? I'm a sophomore this year, and I have a few colleges that I'm interested in. I got a 26 on the ACT last year as a Freshman, so should I go on and send my scores after I take it this year to the colleges that I'm interested in? If so, what advantages does doing this give me?

A 26 is a pretty good score, and if that is in the middle 50% of applicants to the schools you’re interested in you can send them in and, perhaps, never take the ACT again.

But since your only a sophomore you may want to take the test at least one more time. Many people improve their scores after taking the test again. My sons both took the test three times, the first two times they both got the exact same composite score, but on the third time each improved, one by two points, one by three.

Other than the test fee you’ve got nothing to lose by taking the test agian. You’ve got the 26 in the bank.

When you take a test, you can provide in your app four colleges to receive the scores and the scores will be sent when the score is released. Those “free sends” are the only advantage to sending scores in sophomore year send a score after advantage of sending scores in sophomore year because if you want to send a score after the scores have been released, it will cost a fee per college. Also, many like to know what their score is before they send it and if you use free sends they are sent automatically.

Other than the use of free sends there really is no reason to send scores to colleges in sophomore (or even junior) year.
