Open to more school suggestions

What other schools that you know of that have good pre-medicine or chemistry departments for majors that I would fit into academically.
I am open to any location and price at the moment. Currently, I live on the west coast but I was born in mid-west.

Why not UCs?
And what state are you from?
Make sure you can afford the schools you listed.
Also, your GPA is great (what is Weighted?) but your SAT is on the lower side for these colleges. You have a greatshot at UW, UPitt, and a good shot at the other public schools. Make sure you have safeties though.
Good luck!

Weighed is like 4.2 I think? Maybe higher I haven’t gotten grades back for the second semester from my junior year. I don’t like UC’s because of highly competitive, overcrowded and almost zero financial aid. This being said I might apply just to see if I can get in.

Does anyone else have some advice

I’m a rising senior too, so take my advice with a grain of salt - but you seem to have pretty strong ECs, so Pitt and UW should be within reach. Only thing would be get your SAT scores up (you don’t fall very favorably in the range that UNC, Mich, and Duke have for their 25/75 splits), and maybe have a couple more medical based ECs. According to the people I’ve talked to involved in application processes, being a well-rounded student is important, but showing a proficiency and interest in your prospective field of study (medicine) is crucial. Again, take everything with a grain of salt - GL, hopefully we’ll be Mich Class of ‘23 together!

I agree with @DJCURRYBEATS19. Your biggest weakness is that SAT; if you get it above 1500+, you would have a more solid chance at these schools. But, you don’t necessarily have to show proficiency in your prospective field, but you do need show what you will contribute to the college in your essays, whether you emphasize your love for foreign language or Boy Scouts. You have a decent resume, but you need to make sure you knit everything together in your application/essays. You should also consider UVA and JHU. GL and who knows, maybe I’ll see you at Mich next year!

@DJCURRYBEATS19 Thank you, I plan on retaking the SAT again in the fall. Hopefully I will see you on campus

@SomeKid123 Thank you for the advice! What should be a target SAT if I were to take it again?

go for washington

@WaterpoloGod23 your target should be 1500 at least for now, but if you feel can reach higher, aim higher

I would take a practice ACT under timed conditions and see if you do better on that than the SAT. Then focus on studying for the test that is best for you! Everything else looks great!

I assume you’re an Oregon resident based on where you took DE classes? Apply to at least one in-state option that you would enjoy as a safety.

@EmpireFrontier Washington is definitely my number one choice atm, do you know if they have good OOS financial aid?

Most public schools are very expensive for out of state students. What did your parents say they can pay for college for you?

@SomeKid123 I plan to retake it in the fall. I will probably focus on the reading and writing section and try and get that score above 700.

@mamaedefamilia I will plan on taking the ACT in the fall as well. To answer your question, yes I am an Oregon resident. I plan on applying to the University of Oregon and Southern Oregon Universities Honor College as safeties.

@suzy100 I was planning on getting some form of financial aid since our family makes under $35,000 a year. I was planning to become a resident of the state to the school in which I matriculate

@WaterpoloGod23 It’s not that easy to become a resident for a state school, especially for the ones you’ve listed. But if your family makes less than 35k, you should be getting near free tuition wherever you get in due to financial aid. Check with the net price calculators for each school tho.

Class rigor might be an issue for a potential pre-med. I don’t see any honors/AP level science classes and no Calculus.

Duke, Rice, and WashU are stats driven so you really need to get the SAT around 1500.

Given your user name, are you recruitable for your sport? If so USC might be a target.

“But if your family makes less than 35k, you should be getting near free tuition wherever you get in due to financial aid.”

This is generally not true. It’s true only if the school is a “meets full need” school, and then the school decides what your “need” is.

OP, run the Net Price Calculators at the schools you are interested in to see if they are affordable. It is true that getting residency for purposes of being charged in-state tuition is very difficult if not impossible in most states.

@Hamurtle Our school offers no STEM-related honors or AP classes. I’ve taken the most rigorous science classes with dual enrollment. I am the founder of the STEM club at my school which I hope will show that I have some initiative in changing our school. I contacted the coach at USC but getting recruited at that institution is very difficult, they only take in 3-5 recruits and those are usually nationally ranked in water polo.
