Senior course load rigorous enough? and EC question

Hey, I was wondering if my course load was rigorous enough for senior year… I want to be competitive at schools like Upenn, Columbia, Princeton

my classes:

AP Calculus BC (the harder one)
AP Physics B (the algebra based one)
AP Economics
AP French Literature
Modern American Literature (easy standard English class)
AP Art

I just took Gym in summer school, so don’t have to take it.

My question is… could I drop AP Art and still have my schedule be compettiive enough? The thing is I took Graphics for 3 years (fresh, soph, junior), I have a job as a graphic/web designer, I’m graphics club prez, and graphics editor for the newspaper + literary magazines. If I want to push the whole graphics thing for college as my hook, do I have to take Ap Art? (regular Graphics class didn’t fit into my schedule)

So basically can I afford to drop AP Art?

I think so...4 APs still look pretty competitive.

It might look a little weird that you are so interested in graphics but never took it. Still, if it's going to make your schedule so busy that you can't handle it, dropping it might not be a bad idea.

beggining, I did take it freshman, sophmore, and junior year....... I couldn't fit it in senior year because of my schedule, so I added AP Art instead.

No, I meant that it might look weird that you didn't take AP Art. Sorry, that was awful wording on my part.

ok welll thats the question... you think not taking that would make my hook look like BS and the adcoms would think I wasn't genuine?

No, I don't think so, but your school will likely provide each college with a list of available APs, and it'll look weird that you didn't take AP Art.

Are you positive graphic arts is a good hook, especially at each school you're applying to?

at many HS's, econ is typically a semester-based course, (unless you are taking both micro and macro); thus, it is considered 1/2 course. Dropping anything else, gives you 4.5 courses, when top schools like to see 5 academic courses.

Can you take AP Lit instead of "easy, standard english" ?

Finally, someone else taking AP Art. I say, in lieu of a graphics class, you shoud take AP Art and persue your graphic design in that class (by working on the 2-D design portfolio).

bluebayou, AP Econ is a full year class at my school where both micro and macro are covered. I don't like AP English classes, so I'm not going to take them.

I'm the first person at my school to ever take AP Art with the intention of doing graphic computer design... most people do drawing/painting.

So then from what I'm reading from you guys, I should take AP Art to make my hook look solid ?

I'm still not sure how graphic arts qualifies as a "hook." :/

If you can take AP English, you definitely need to, instead of the admittedly "easy" class.
