I fully understand that senior grades are important and colleges see them, however, I am not clear on the extent that colleges incorporate them. Do colleges calculate your first simester into your GPA? Do they only check your progress to make sure your acceptance is not a mistake? Im sure some colleges are different with different deadlines and such, my main concern are UCs and Cal States. But if anyone can shed light on the way most public and private schools operate id appreciate it.

good question…hope someone answers! i was wondering the same thing. hopefully this post will bump this up.

Gpa information is only calculated annually, so 1st semester senior grades don’t affect that. But, it will tell the adcoms how you’re able to handle that last HS crunch, or if you’re coasting since they see your grades and also know what you’re expected to take in the spring.

Many times, it made the difference between ED —> defer (if they wanted more information) —> accept or ----> reject.

So, if My GPA is below par, but I do a 180 and get a 4.5 it would only be a + or would it affect the way they see my GPA?

I’m a high 90’s student. What if my senior year average drops to like low 90’s or high 80’s (since this is my first time taking APs)? Is that too bad?
