Hello, I am senior applying to college this year. I have taken the ACT many times and I am proud of my score, but I still believe I can do better…hopefully.
Highest Scores:
Composite: 32 (both June and September)
English: 35 (September)
Math: 35 (February)
Reading: 33 (June)
Science: 33 (June)
Writing: 10/12 (September) and 30/36 (February)
Superscore: 34
The struggle is getting these good scores all in one sitting! I am aiming for a 34+ composite and I just retook it on Saturday…but it was a disaster. I had a bloody nose during the math section and I didn’t feel like I did amazing on any of the sections.
So now I am taking it again in December and I am determined to do well since it is my last try!
When prepping before I used mostly the 2012 Princeton Review books from my older siblings and the third edition Real ACT. I am now thinking I should invest in more current materials since I am running out of practice tests.
I still have 2 or 3 full-length tests left in the Real ACT, but I think I will buy the Official ACT Prep Guide 2016-2017 for 3 more tests that are up-to-date.
I am also debating on getting the PR Cracking the ACT with 6 tests or the PR 1400+ Practice Questions or the Manhattan 5 Ib. Book of ACT Practice Problems. Any suggestions?
At this point I will probably do a full-length practice test each Saturday that I can and work on individual sections throughout the week. Practicing and strategizing has always been my technique.
I’d love any overall advice and/or recommendations for prep books! Thanks!
Your 32C and your 34 Superscore are solid results - well done. If nothing else, your inconsistent results certainly demonstrate the value of taking multiple times to get a great Superscore. Hope December is your date where it all happens at once. Keep doing your practice tests and address every missed question and you will get there. If you are looking for practice tests use c r a c k ***.com - google to figure out if not clear. Good luck.
Update:
So, I just got my October scores back: C: 32 E: 34 M: 32 R: 33 S: 30
I thought I did terrible in all the sections, but it turns out I’m cursed to be the most consistent person alive. When it comes to composite scores anyway.
I’m signed up for December and my dad seriously rolled his eyes at me with absolute no confidence that I can break my three time 32 streak. Hope I can prove him wrong!! I feel better knowing I thought I bombed this test and I did better than expected, so maybe I really can get higher next time…
@annamom Thanks for your confidence! I just got my scores on Monday.
Update #2:
33C 35E 34M 32R 31S
To be honest, I’m sad I fell slightly short of 34 because that would have really helped me for scholarship reasons. But I am happy to have at least raised my score this time! And now I am officially done with my testing because this was my last chance
