senior schedule dillema >.O

Alright. I need some wise words from people who know what they're talking about ^_^

I am currently a senior. My high school career has been very successful - each course I take is in the highest level possible, high SATs and very high GPA. I am planning to apply for colleges in the area of Musical Theatre and NYU Tisch is one of my top schools.

However, I have some concerns regarding their attentiveness to course selections. Because of my involvement with school music ensembles I could not earlier fill a lot of my county's requirements for graduation until my senior year. This is what my schedule currently looks like:

AP Eglish
AP Biology
Wind Ensemble
Madrigals
Sign Language II
Spanish II honors (county requires 2 yrs foreign language and they don't count sign! grr)
Food and Nutrition Technology (required tech credit, I'm going to try and drop it - the course is so easy it hurts to be there - and take another, probably computer science)

I'm aware that this isn't the most impressive schedule for senior year, but it was just the way things worked out, and if I had my choice I'd be taking more challenging classes.

Also, I JUST discovered that NYU wants to see four years of history. >.< I got a 2 on my World AP test, I am terrible at history and I don't enjoy it at all, so I didn't take it my senior year, and it's a bit too late to try and change things.

What my question is, will these factors dramatically decrease my chances at getting in? Even if I'm going the Tisch route and majoring in the area of the arts? What if my essay was an explanation as to why my schedule appears this way? Please help!

I don't really see a problem. I technically only took two years of history (I took American history by correspondence), and I still got into CAS with a big scholarship.

If I were you, I wouldn't waste the essay space by explaining this and that. Use your essay to show off something about you that's not apparent by looking at your transcripts or resume.

Ideally, you should have four years of all the core academic subject areas, regardless of which NYU college you want. You might want your GC to explain the course selection rather than explain it in your essay. Why no math this year? Not much you can do about it now, though. Admission odds are so slim for MT anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks guys for you input - any more is very welcome!
