Senior Year Academic Rigor

Hi Everyone,

Most colleges that I have visited have described how they view academic rigor as the most important attribute to an application. What is considered academic rigor and a strong schedule for seniors that are applying to top tier schools?

I plan to apply ED to Davidson College and I am taking AP Statistics, Honors Calculus, AP US Government & Politics, AP English Language & Composition, along with Vietnam and Astronomy (which are both semester courses). I have already taken four years of Spanish and two years of Latin so I will not be taking a language and I have taken Biology, Chemistry, and Physics all at honors levels so I will not be taking a full year science course. Will this schedule suffice for what Davidson and other top colleges are looking for or would it be wise to add another course(s) to better my application?

Thank you.

Your guidance counselor will check whether your courses were below average rigor, average, rigorous, or most rigorous. My guess is you’re in the rigorous category, so id say as long as your grades and SAT are good you’re in line for Davidson

Does the counselor report the rigor?

Thank you for your input. Does anyone else have any addition opinions/knowledge on the subject?

The level of rigorous may depends on your high school profile. For instance, they will compare the number of AP classes offered and the number of AP classes you will have taken by senior. Also, they would look at the average number of AP classes taken by other students at your school. The requirement would also vary depending on the school you are applying.
