Senior Year Classes

Okay, so at my high school, they offer some really cool classes, but I'm torn between taking AP classes and taking those classes. I like to think of these classes as once-in-a-lifetime opportunities but then again, AP classes are the standard that most colleges are going to use. At most schools, it's usually AP Bio, APUSH, AP Lit, but at this school, it's classes such as Forensics Science, The Art of Novella, and Printmaking. Forensics Science- how could you not be interested?

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, I don't want to hurt my chances at the college admissions by taking these classes. So will these classes make me stand out in a good way or a bad way? And should I just stick to AP's? I know I'll still be happy with those AP's classes; it's just the curiosity of these other classes that will bother me from time to time.

My school has those types of courses as well - Forensic Science, Biotechnology, Pathology, etc - but they’re usually regarded as classes to be taken to either boost your GPA or act an alternative because you couldn’t excel in a standard, traditional type course.

I took Forensic Science as a filler. All we did was read print outs and watch CSI: Miami.

Why don’t you take a combination of both? Take it from someone who just completed the college admissions process-it’s freaking everywhere. A bunch of kids got into schools I never thought they would get into. A bunch more, like the val, sal, and third ranking person in my class were denied from places other kids in my class got into. It’s all a game. Do what you think will provide you with the most enjoyment. Don’t do things because your guidance counselors are telling you to or because you’re trying to play this game. It’s all luck. Take a combo of AP and the stuff you like. Jeopardizing your happiness isn’t worth it in the end, especially during your senior year.

How many classes can you take total?
Take 4 core classes: Math, English, Science and History or Foreign Language (if you have a particular area of interest take two classes in it)

Then take a fun class or two.
