Senior Year Classes

Ok so I'm a junior in hs and we're getting ready to register for classes and I just have a few questions. Duke is my top choice and I'm hoping some fellow Dukies can help clear things up. I'm looking to apply to Pratt (username:)) and do ME or CEE, but I haven't thrown out the possibility of majoring in Physics or Math in Trinity.

Question:
It says on collegeboard that Duke recommends 4 credits in Social Studies, so I'll have to take one senior year (AP Gov.) But since I'm in Calc BC right now I won't have a math next year, the only other maths for me to take are Stat or Discrete. This year we didn't offer AP stat, only honors, but it might be a different story next year because there are a few juniors in BC needing a math next year; AP stat will only be a semester at our school. Since the 4 ss credits are only a recommendation and I'm not taking another math (and physics isn't considered a math): would it be more beneficial to take AP Stat and find some other honors class to take first sem or take a fourth social studies credit in AP Gov (1 sem) and take honors stat?

Senior Year Schedule:
AP Physics (a must)
AP Eng IV
AP Span (a must for SHS)
Either:
AP Stat and honors...not sure yet
or
Honors Stat and AP Gov.

Thanks a bunch!!

ap gov is a lot easier than ap stats in my school. so id say go with ap gov

Can you do an independant study with multivariate Calc?

Well, I’ve taken both AP Government and AP Statistics.

I made a B in AP Stats (I’m not a math person at all), so I think you should definitely do well in that class, as you aspire to attend Pratt and what not.

I’m making an A in AP Gov. as of now, so you should probably do well in that class, too (although I don’t know your background in history/social studies).

In my opinion, you should take both AP classes. The more AP classes, the better!

Good luck!

AP stat is the way to go; its a math credit and it really isn’t that tough, especially the first semester stuff

I ended up going with H stat and AP Gov…I may change it though, its all going to depend on if enough people signed up for AP Stat. If they do, I’ll take that and AP Euro (which I just found out is a fall sem class)
