my grades for the last 3 years were pretty good, i rank in the top 5% of my class, and my junior year grades were fantastic.
however, senior year, im taking 6 aps, and with senioritis im not doing so well
first marking period, i got a c in ap calc bc, and a c+ in ap physics.
this marking period, my grades are looking pretty much the same.
how is this going to hurt my chances for admission? am i not going to get in because of just senior year? (im applying to all mostly competitive/ivy schools)
any ideas?! :(

2 C’s definitely won’t look good. It probably won’t be a make or break kind of deal but it probably won’t help you. Some schools, for example Johns Hopkins University, focuses a great deal on junior and senior grades as opposed to sophomore and junior grades, like most institutions do (or starting from 9th grade). 6 AP’s, however, is a tough courseload, so it’s tough to say how your senior grades will be looked upon.

I remember your Wharton posts. Were you waitlisted or rejected?

i was deferred.

my main points arent scores of grades, its extracurriculars. i have a pretty impressive list of that and leadership and experiences so thats whats my main thing.
but grades are really slacking this year, so i dont know how theyll respond to that :(

I’ll use a quote paraphrased from the Caltech site’s FAQ (which I found a lot more direct and a lot less pc than most other colleges’):

Q: Is it better to take harder classes and get Bs or take easier classes and get As?
A: We can’t advise you on this, but most of the students we accept take harder classes and get As in them.

Translation: Your Cs just ****ed you over, or at least they won’t look good for you.

good luck

definitely wont look good.

You have safeties, right? One needs to appear to have taken the toughest courses possible and get As. No matter how many APs you take, it’s too glaring to have Cs on your transcript for those top schools.
