@ My school were now in the last semester: the validvic has already been selected and although I'm top 5% I have no shot at being 1,2, or 3rd in the class. After already being accepted into college, what is the point of getting good grades this last semester?

a) To not be rescinded. Though that’s not much of a worry - as long as you don’t drop to straight Ds or anything you’ll be fine; a few more Bs won’t hurt.
b) To not get into a habit of slacking off and thus be overwhelmed with work next fall.

It’s fine to ease up a bit and relax but don’t get carried away.

Cause the cool kids do work at school! =), lol, in all seriousness just so colleges can see that you are still working hard and continue to know your are devoted and that they made the right choice.

Grades never mattered…

Damn educational system. Making people think that grades are more important than the knowledge gained.

You’ll be going to college in the upcoming years. Why not practice getting in the habit I guess?

I know knowledge gained>grades, but I’m still stressing over my grades now that I know I’m failing. ■■■.

I feel like everything is coming to an end, as high school is ending. I don’t feel accomplished at all. I think I am going insane.

If anything, I feel like I royally screwed up this third quarter, and I missed out on the chance to graduate at the top of my class. Sounds realy stupid, but I’m devastated by the thought of never accomplishing anything. I never anticipated graduating high school feeling like this…

^ Don’t feel too bad, I’m sure you’re not that much of a failure.

Who cares about being the top of your class. 1-10 are pretty much the same.

What if u got accepted in a school and then u let ur grades go 2 like all Ds. Can a college tell u that they dont want u anymore?

"Grades never mattered…

Damn educational system. Making people think that grades are more important than the knowledge gained."

Damn straight, AeroEng.

What I do is for the teachers who are genuinely interested in imparting knowledge onto me and have a system where grades are a good indicator of knowledge imparted, I will put in a low, but acceptable amount of effort. But for all of the BS classes where grades = how much busywork done… oh well.

Adiva, they probably will if you go from all As to Ds, and assuming we’re dealing with a top30ish college

there is no point. what’s the point of High School? biggest waste ever, I haven’t really learned anything essential, just memorized a crap load of facts, i’ve had some cool teachers, but overall, in most classes I could have learned all that information just by reading in less than a year, HS is more about socializing than it is about learning, you learn from experience not from being trapped inside a building 7 hours a day, HS students, including myself, are all slaves to a corrupt system

To show colleges that you’re still working hard and keeping up with your studies I think

As highschool is coming to an end, I strongly share your sentiments. It seemed like a big waste It really did! The administration was *****, not letting me do an independent study, most of the teachers are . We memorize equations and we play a game. That’s it…that’s what all my classes seemed to have become…A GAME. I’ve seen my peers do well in physics classes by merely memorizing equations, not knowing where the hell we even derived them etc…cuz it’s like a game. I especially hate AP Stat. I am doing worse in that class, although I’ve derived every formulae through an upper division math class in the summer. But, it’s a bunch of ***…confidence tests etc etc…doign the same things over and over again! Highschool is a game. I tried not to play it, but towards the end, I scrambled back into this pointless abyss…

But knowledge gain and grades don’t necessarily have to be black and white (and seperate). Sometimes, there is a pretty positive correlation.

As a second semester senior, i am ranting not necessarily at grades but how disappointing my highschool academic experience has become. But, it doesn’t make sense to just slack…and do nothing. Maybe slack in school, but work hard on things you are passionate about…look into something that you may want to seriously studying over the summer. But I have to admit that is still a bit hard to do…as it is very unmotivating as a second semester senior.

I had a “contract” that said that I had to keep all my grades at C or better and that my cumulative senior year GPA had to be 3.0 or better.

Then drop out and go find something you find more worth your time.

There are times when I feel the same way. But (and maybe it’s because our schools do things differently) usually I find the things I learn interesting, even if I will never use it again. And if I’m only told to go memorize a list of things and I’m not taught where they come from, then my friends and I go and derive the formulas or go research where they come from.

Sometimes we get frustrated at the system and sometimes the system is wrong, but the system determines how we live our lives and we must follow it. So try to find some way to make it worth your while, for me that means simply taking satisfaction from learning pointless information. I guess that’s just my personality.

should’ve tried homeschooling

I graduated 3rd in my class…
